    Hey all...
First of all my car is a VY SS manual..
Was driving tonight on the freeway, was a bit under 10 degrees i reckon...
Anyway my temperature gauge usually sits a little below 1/2 way... about 3/8 of the temperatre gauge. But tonight it dropped to about 1/4 (so 2/8)'s for a little while.. say 1 minute... then went back to normal. I was cruising in 6th by way. This has happened once before i think. I am driving with the engine cover off, but when it happened in the first time it had the engine cover on, and was another cold night. I tried to reproduce the problem.. by crusing in 6th which changed nothing, and then by heading downhill along the freeway in neutrol rolling at 100km/h... and no luck.
Anyway.. is this normal? Is it even sitting in the correct position for start with (3/8)?
Just hoping that the thermostat hasn't been removed due to overheating problems (i got the car a few months ago).

    Thanks guys,
    Adam

if the thermostat was removed the guage wouldnt move much off cold,

im guessing, the maybe be the slightest possibility that the engine at that point wasnt doing much work (no load) and being a cold night the cooling system was working at a much greater level than what was needed by the engine, thus cooling the engine a little bit (or cooler water passing the sensor), when the engine was slightly loaded agin the temperature went back to normal

hmm does seem a little strange? maybe your temp sensor wasnt quite working, or had a dip in voltage?
