    Hi,

Purchased a VY SV8 last week and so far the experience of the 8 has been awesome :)

However there are a few problems with the car that I'm hoping will be covered under warranty, as such some help ID the problems would be awesome.

    1. Engine makes a crunch/grinding noise for about half a second (towards the drivers side), once, just after the ignition is on put in drive and the car is moving about 2 seconds after the car starts to move.
    2. Brake pedal makes a crackling/creaking noise when depressing it
    3. Steering wheel shudders at 90KM/H-100KM/H
    4. Steering wheel makes a whiny noise when turning at low speeds

Any thoughts would be fantastic so as I can arm the dealer with my problems!

The wheel shudder at a particular speed is probably just a wheel that's out of balance or alignment - this is very simple to fix.

The whiny noise during low speed turning is almost certainly coming from the power steering pump, which might be running low on fluid, or perhaps becoming worn out. Check the fluid level first, and if that's not the problem, ask a mechanic to check it out.

For fault #1 i have the same problem on my VY S2, it is actually your drivers side front brake rubbing and according to holden is normal.
They told me that it is just my ABS system making sure the pads are all aligned up correctly.

    1. Have you let it go in to drive properly before you start moving?
    2. No idea.
    3. As stated possibly an alignment issue, but could also be a buckled rim.
    4. As mentioned, check your fluid levels. But i'm pretty sure it was normal for the holdens to make a whiny noise (which was later fixed under warranty by putting in a bigger hose or something? - i could be wrong). My VY has a bit of a whine sometimes when turning.

    Hi,

    first of thanks!

Second, yup I've check the power steering fluid levels and its fine.

i figured the shudder would be allingment/balance. The wheels/tyres and only 3000KM's old and I took them of my old VT.

I've booked it in for tomorrow for them to have a look.

every VY i have owned does it. its simply the abs system initiating on first movement. its all normal. its not a time delay its a set speed delay after moving, something like 5km/hr

The wheel shudder at speed is a wheel BALANCE, not a wheel alignment.

No, you're thinking of a different problem. It was the power steering SHUDDER (at full lock) which was fixed under warranty by installing a bigger hose.

Correct, though I'm pretty sure it's neither time OR speed dependent. I think you'll find it just happens the first time you press the accelerator.
