Hi guys my vy v6 gauge doesnt work.
Sometimes if i turn it off and on a few times i'll go up to 1/4 but it doesnt work whilst driving
Will replacing the sensor fix that or would it be a wiring thing? Cheers

Ground the wire connected to the sensor while the ignition is on (engine off).
If the gauge reads full scale, the circuit and the gauge are ok. The problem will be the sensor.

Make sure you are checking the gauge sender unit (one wire) and not the engine management coolant sensor (two wires).

vy's don't have a separate sender for the dash, they only utilise the two-wire sensor located under the thermostat

the two wire coolant temp senders are pretty cheap for the vy would be worth changing anyway to see if it fixes it

ok, I'm confused...

so i went for a drive down the freeway and back
probably 30 min drive, car off for 20 then 30 min drive back

with the digital gauge on, the highest it got was 75 and that was sitting at the lights and the gauge itself had started to move up just under the 1/4 mark
then it went back down after abit of driving

so whats the go? the car was running around 60 degrees. i think the gauge works fine its just not running hot enough?

so now the question is why is it running so cool?

btw i just brought the car 2 days ago
