Opps forgot to guess VY or VZ - looking like the HG = VY S1

Wow, 110L tank.. thats a fair upgrade from the standard 68L tank.

Holdens Tech2 cannot do "custom" fuel changes. It only has predefined fuel configurations eg Sedan,Ute,Utility.
Its wont be a simple change of the total fuel capacity set in the cluster, the volume and corresponding ohms need to be worked out and then programmed into the cluster so the remaining fuel, distance left and also so the gauge displays correctly.

It was an easy install and since I do a bit of highway driving I now do not have to stop and fill with jerry cans. Darwin to Tennant Creek in one run with fuel to spare.

I would be interested in setting up the gauge accurately with your software.

First off, youll need to pick up an ALDL cable, this allows you to communicate with your car. I highly recommend requesting a cable from here: pcmhacking.net - View topic - FS: USB Vehicle Data Interface
I currently use this cable, works flawlessly, there are also various other places selling ALDL cables, including a couple on ebay but Im unsure of how "reliable" these are!.

For those that like a DIY job, feel free to pm me and ill link you to a few pages.. must have a soldering ion and some patience!.

Once you've sussed a cable out, ill help sort your fuel gauge out, I imagine it must be a pain

A quick Q and A for various cable related questions Iv received in the past weeks!
Q: I have a VY V8, do I need a ALDL cable or OBD2 cable? Everyone says I need a OBD2 cable?
A: Well you can have both, An OBD2 cable is for ENGINE related information only. Whereas the ALDL Cable lets you communicate to everything else in the car.

Q: I have a VZ, and a ELM cable (OBD2), can I use this?
A: Unfortunately no, you need a ALDL cable to communicate to everything not engine related!

Q: I read that VZ's are only OBD2 compliant and do not use the old ALDL system, is there a special cable we need?
A: Take it from me, whoever is saying that.. hasnt actually played with the cars comms! No special cable needed, Just a ALDL cable is required. OBD2 is for engine related information only. ALDL lets you communicate to the SRS,cluster,BCM,ABS ect.

*Will update front page with Q's & A's

Morning TazzI,

Just had a reply
"Hi,
They do not support LS1 vehicles sorry, these are OBD2 and not ALDL. Can get ELM327 interfaces on ebay for under $20.

Ryan"

Alot of people looking to communicate with their vehicles are looking to tune their car ect. Hence a ELM (OBD2) cable is required for any VY V8 or any VZ to do anything engine related.

All VY/VZ's use ALDL to communicate to the BCM,Cluster,SRS,PIM,ABS,Climate control, Radio ect. Pretty much everything not engine related.
Just quote me to VL or let him know your after communicating with the instrument cluster and not the engine/pcm.

He's just making sure no-one buys the wrong thing for what they are after :beer chug:

VY V6 = Completely ALDL.. including Engine information
VY V8 = Engine is OBD2.. everything else uses ALDL
VZ V6 = Engine is OBD2.. everything else uses ALDL
VZ V8 = Engine is OBD2.. everything else uses ALDL

Hi Tazzi , I am wondering if you have your software for sale as yet , the reason I ask is the right hand lcd display in my Calais had bled and given it is a L67. the instant fuel consumption is handy when towing as you can uses lots if not careful. I took it to get repaired and the instrument guy said the best way was to buy a second hand one and just get him to match the odometer , he did warn me I should make sure the one I got was a series 2 V6 Calais the same as mine.

After a while searching I eventually brought one on ebay after confirmed the part number was the same 92115852 , Dial color etc, I took it to him and had him increase the odometer to match the old one (they record the Odometer reading each year at the roadworthy in NSW) installed it and now my fuel gauge is backwards. After reading your great write up, I now know my late October 2003 S2 has a S1 sender . I would have though by late Oct 03 Holden would have used the S1 stock? But since the L67 uses a different fuel pump maybe that why?

I am hoping to buy you software so I can correct the gauge, as you are right the backwards gauge with the low fuel alarm going of each time you fill up is annoying even after only having it for a week, not to mention the fact I have no confidence when it is getting empty. When I remember to reset it I currently use the fuel used display to know when I need to fill up as I don’t think resistance values are linier, the gauge shows nearly empty (over ¾ full) from about half a tank.

If you software is not finished but can correct the fuel gage that is ok with me, I already have a Cable as I was going to flash tune it, until I found that the L67 does not have the flash tune PCM.

Also just a possible correction to the list above VY SY 92115852 LVL3 STANDARD is for the series 2 (even if one of mine has calibration for S1) They have black dial faces and I think S1 calais have grey.

Thanks
