Hi, I have a VY wagon. I've noticed that the rear wheels are getting quite warm/hot when i have been towing a trailer (very light load) for about an hour. the speed has been less than 80ks and just along major road in normal free flowing traffic. I've just had the wagon for about 3 months bought second hand. (had a vt sedan before). I'd like to know how hot should the wheels (not tyres) be getting? Unfortunely, I can't recall the wheels getting this hot on the VT, so would apprecaite any comparitive information. thanks. jond
I cant say I have ever noticed my rear wheels getting any hotter that usual and I have towed both little 6x4 trailers, furniture trailers and car trailers, so not sure what is going on there? They did get hotter in stop start traffic with the furniture trailer on and the day temp was in the high 30's but that would have ben the brakes earning their keep!
have you checked rear wheels temp without towing anything?.. did you first check that the rear wheels tyre preasure was correct for towing?... heat from the tyres will transfere the the rims.. have you jacked up the rear wheels and checked the wheel bearings, the wheels will rotate freely and no bearing loose movement... maybe IRS alignment gets out a bit when towing, if the toe gets out of alignment this could cause tyre heat buildup and the heat can transfere to the rims...
