VY acclaim wagon
G'day.
Can Anyone tell me if the towbar to suit a VT Wagon will also fit a VYWagon. I have bought one on ebay that was advertised for VT, VX, VY Wagon but after checking with Holden they said the part number on the one I have bought suits a VT and has a different part number to the one they list for my VY. Has anyone that has fitted one have any tips they would pass on about installation(assuming it fits)

The towbar for the VT - VZ wagons are the same.

All individual models VT,VX,VY,VZ will have different part numbers.

I have a VX II wagon with a VT wagon towbar ( as fitted by Holden Dealer ).

How many kg's is your towbar rated at ?

Have you purchased a wiring harness ?

Thanks,
The towbar is rated 1200kg. No I haven't purchased the wiring harness yet though my local Holden dealer has them and apparently there are plugs behind one of the tail lights to simply plug it in though I haven't checked that yet.
Thanks for the info and will go ahead now and attempt the fitting. It appears i have to remove the "rib" behind the plastic outer bumper to get it to fit.

I'm not too sure if you can install the towbar without removing the rear bumper.

You will find if you remove the bumper (a few screws) it will make it much easier to install the towbar as well as removing the "rib".

The Holden wiring harness is simply plug and play, and is plugged into the main harness at the driverside rear tail light.

Good luck

It'll fit but if its for a vt it wont look so good. the vt towbars came out from underneath the bumper where as the vy ones came out of the bumper cut out.

To fit: remove bumper: screws in wheel arch, clips on top and underneath the bumper, pop sides out then take off.
remove intrusion bar: 4 x 17mm head bolts.
remove intrusion bar mounts: 4 x 3/4 head nuts.
remove: 2 x 15mm head nuts from fixed bolts underneath car.
fit bar up, i think you refit the intrusion bar on the genuine ones.
run your wiring: colours if you need them (wire behind rhs panel in boot)

(park/brown) goes to brown
(left/yellow) goes to light blue (small plug in seperate harness)
(right/green) goes to dark blue
(stop/red) goes to blue-red
(earth/white) goes to black-blue

Then just put your bumper back and bolt your tongue on.

Easy as.
