Holden WL Statesman VZ Commodore 05 AIR Intake Plenum Chamber V6 3 6L LY7 | eBay

Im going to pick one up on Monday from the wreckers ...

Just wonder what they do exactly (?)

Since all the commodores seem to have them ( VE and on )
On the VZ its supposedly found on the SV6 ( supposedly )

My best guess is , perhaps some sort of trap for sock wave , or even works as an oil trap ( ? )

Anyone have the factory spiel on this ( ? )

Soarer - The Intake Resonator

FLUID DYNAMIC STUDY OF INTAKE MANIFOLDS OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES IN PRESENCE OF ACOUSTIC RESONATORS

So ....

Ok , designed to equalize pressure , for more even airflow ...
Can also offer a tuned resonance , lower engine noise ..
Increase torque / power at certain RPM points ...

Interesting ...

Only been for a short drive , does not seem like it hurts in any way ... Does it help ???
I did think about the VE resonator on the VZ , but I dint think the radiator fans leave enough room ...
The VE uses a more contemporary design ... ( Hmmmmm )

They don't do much except deaden intake noise . No performance gains at all

My stereo was too loud , so cant say on intake noise ...
Did it feel different driving = Perhaps ...
Drive was too short ...

But one issue I have with the VZ is throttle position and holding speed .. ( PITA )
For some reason the stupid RC throttle just can't hold a speed like a good old cable throttle can ...

With my VS I could position my foot and sit at what ever speed for ever ( Till my leg cramped )
With the VZ this is not possible , either the car picks up speed and the nagging B**ch that is my GPS tells me I am speeding ( set to 0 tolerance )
Or my speed drops to much bellow the limit ... I like to sit 1kmh bellow the limit ( So 59 in a 60 zone and 79 in a 80 zone )
Yeah I do use the cruise control on longer stretches of road , but then there are other people on the road that cant maintain speed and do strange things ... :hmmm:

Anyhow , drive wasn't long enough , but the car did seem to hold speed a little better with the RC throttle ( Accelerator ) ... ( ?? )
Possibly , possibly that more even air pressure thing ? ( Possibly )
Maybe I was concentrating more ( ? )

I will keep an eye fuel consumption and see what happens ...
Look , this was a $30 mod , and if it does nothing , then its possibly the cheapest mod that does nothing ...
I really wish I had access to a dyno ...
If I ever win the lottery , I will buy a few commodores and then mod them and DYNO every mod .... ( Bolt on Mod ) ( U know the BS aftermarket bolt on power mods :lock: )
As well make a website dedicated to the tests .. ( Just because I hate BS )

I still think the best V6 mod is to just pony up for a supercharged V6 :rofl2:

:

Judging by the one I removed from my VZ Adventra, it will do one thing - collect oil from your PCV blowoff! Mine had about 100mL in it!

I did the reverse of what you have done.
I replaced the resonator version with a straight version. Wasn't able to measure any difference in performance, though it did slow the heating of air intake. (back when I was obsessed with that sort of thing)

You can measure performance using an OBD transmitter & an appropriate program on a phone or tablet, like Torque.
But the difference from the different intake tube might be hard to detect.

It seems to have made the Engine a little more quiet ( I like that )
It may also hold speed a little better ( I like that )
The only thing I can measure , quantify , will be fuel consumption ...
I have kept an eye on the fuel consumption since putting in a Mace Spacer ..
....

13.2 / 100
15 / 100
12.2 / 100
13.1
13.94
13.5
12.42
13.5
11.71

Id call that 13 something per 100km ... So will see what happens with the fuel economy ..
