A pair of 12" footprints would be better than an equivalent size Stillsons. If they could be leveraged in the engine bay.

Has anyone had this problem and how did they get the cover off? It seems to have been tightened on with a rattle gun. Any help would be greatly appreciated. View attachment 218410View attachment 218410

Stillson sounds like the best idea to me or the tap around the rim with a sharp screwdriver or chisel .
It may have been tightened so hard because it was leaking and they do leak if people forget to change the large "O" ring when they change the filter .

I did suggest the chisel early on, and this getting this off has been going on far too long now.
Is it off OP?
As mentioned always use the new O ring and it will not leak, and you never need to pull it down tight.
Just as it starts to nip is fine.
But of course check check check regularly.

Get yourself a traditional oil filter wrench, and a strip of non-slip rubber.

Place and secure the non-slip rubber around the oil filter housing cap, then place the filter wrench over it, progressively tightening it, and give the cap a twist until it loosens. Do not bang the cap or put anything like WD-40 on it as it will affect the threads.

The cap is never ever secured with a rattle gun. Just a ring spanner and a modicum of tightening. Replacement caps are available.

While I fully understand what you mean by chiseling it off and agree it is the best method, I am sure most people would not understand until shown how to do it.

And Big Red Go Kart the filter wrench will not work, way too flimsy

Best bet is stillsons or foot prints but not easy to use in that position
