Hi guys,

I have searched over and over on JC (yes I used search function) and could not find the information I'm after.

I am trying to check the primary and secondary resistance on my coil packs, thinking one of them has an issue.

I cannot find any information about how to actually check them, eg what pins to check for pri or sec and what the readings should be.

When searching I can only find info about vy and prior which are not the same type of coil pack or find vz ls1 info instead.

I am after this info specific to VZ V6 Alloytec.

Appreciated.

i've had this issue also, u can check the resistance across 2 sets of pins for primary and secondary, but readings vary and i still havent been able to find the correct values. from memory, pins (big X for checking) xXxX and xXXx , but i cant remember for certain.

my best check is to remove the plug from each coil pack , one at a time whilst the engine is running to determine the failed coil. i know this doesnt help checking new/second hand coils.

watching and waiting for correct ohm values.

What I was going to do is check each coil pack and see which one has different readings to the others.. in hope that one is causing the issue.

I can't seem to find the ohms readings for this car anywhere.. even the gregory manuals only list for vy and before despite having 'suitable for vt-vz' on the cover...

If U remove the plug one at a time, u'll find the one that's causing ur issue, did this to the father in laws vz 2 weeks ago

Even its not feeling like a standard jerky misfire?

Would pulling the plug on each just point out which pack is less 'affected' by having that pack disconnected?

If its running like **** on idle and thru the rev range, by removing a coil plug, the engine will either run worse if the coil is good, ot won't be affected by the unplug.

If its a misfire here and there, and not at idle this method won't work

Sample readings of ignition coils

View attachment SV6 Service Recordsa.pdf
Hi Morphix,
I changed plugs recently and logged the conditon of the coils, labrynth seals and resistances.
I used a Digital Multi Meter on 20K scale. The terminals are as per the manual's numbering layout. The readings eg between terminals 2 and 3 with the "Plus" and "Minus" signs indicate that the reading was different when meter leads were reversed. I missed in the measuring of coil #2, however the coil packs were fairly consistent in ohmic values. Be careful using a resistance meter which demands a high current to get the ohmic reading, it may damage an internal electrical component. The DMM uses a very low current to test the continuity etc. Hope this helps. (The file is a pdf format).

Tomorrow i'm going to remove the spark plugs and coil packs and test them, see how i go.

Hope i can find the cause of the issue...

If i can't sort this out by next pay (a fortnight) i'll just end up paying somewhere to diagnose it for me.

Well..so far all I did was remove the coils pack connectors on the left hand side one at a time then reconnect them.

Cleared the fault code.. and made sure connection is fine.. but keeps coming up A & F coil pack resistance failure codes when restarting....

Anyone know the coil pack order from left to right?
