You could also do the pcv valve revamp as detailed in one of Fu's posts and
a bottle of injector clean in the tank but follow the directions.

i have done the pcv mod and done injector clean. i have done all the basics as a was a motorbike mechanic for 20 odd years so i know my way around petrol engines.
i have just finished cleaning the cam phasers and it seems one of them may have been stuck. im gonna take it for a drive and see if it is better.
if that was the problem, then i will upload photos and a "how to" tonight.

so i took the cam sensors and cam phasers out today for an inspection. the sensors were filthy and the phasers were ok. the drivers side phaser seemed to be a little stuck at the bearing and spring inside took a bit of compressed air and carby clean to get moving freely.
i had hoped this was the issue so i cleaned them all up and reassembled. took it for a drive and there was a tad more torque down low but still feels flat over 3000 rpm.

on the upside, upon looking into the engine through the sensor holes, it didnt look "too" gunked up. although by the look of the sensor you would think the opposite

the car seems to have a real rough idle too.. like its annoyingly rough idle...
if its in drive then it idles smoothly, or even in neutral with the aircon on its ok.... but when i sit at the lights in neutral or park (without the aircon on) then the engine can get a little rough and shakey.

however my 07 v6 crewman and my 05 sv6 idle smooth as a rolls royce.

I can’t emphasise enough how important it is to clean the threads and contact surfaces of your earths. Behind the battery, two on each cylinder head, the two below the ABS unit.
Hey Fu, where are the two on the passanger head, I only ever did the one toward the rear of the head.

Vacuum leak.
Brake booster hose.
Check the cabin vacuum line
Check the vacuum line on the heater tap.
The PCV pipes and their connections can harden and become brittle. It’s an easy part to get. Cheap. Easy to change over.
The manifold vent pipes can harden where they go into the manifold each side.
There are three types of barb fittings on the intake manifolds.
*The brass fitting. Pressed in. No need to change.
*Plastic barb fitting that is threaded in. Change to threaded brass barbs. @Mufudzi has some pointers on the Youtubes.
*The pushed in plastic barb with a shitty o-ring. They leak like buggery. Again, replace with threaded brass barb. Remove the manifold to do it.

Make sure you have used a new intake manifold gasket.

Make sure there are no leaks in the intake pipe post the MAF sensor.

Look for oil deposits around the cam covers. Replace the cam cover seals.

Dump some fuel injector cleaner into a tank of fuel.

Clean the intake with Suburu Top End Cleaner. That stuff is the shizz. Get it from Suburu.

Double check the plugs.

Clean the earths

Ensure the coil harness plugs are seated correctly.

Clean the harness plugs (disconnect negative terminal first) with some CO Contact Cleaner. *On a cold engine.

Clean and tighten battery terminals

Do a trans oil change or two as previously recommended.

One behind the battery. An important one.
Yes, there’s an earth on each side on each head. That is the injector/coil harness. Retap the threads. Clean the thread on the bolt. Sand or scotchbrite the Harness eyelets as well as contact surfaces. Spray with CO Contact cleaner to clear debris and reconnect.
There is also an earth on the ECU on a 7mm hex head bolt. Same deal. Clean it.

Make sure the main earth is good. Do a bolt check on it where it’s on the engine.

Thanks for that.
I did all of them some time ago but I thought you were saying there were 2 on the passenger head, so all good.
