If it doesn't siphon back in from the overflow, then it can only really be four things.
1. The cap is faulty.
2. There is a leak allowing air to be siphoned back in (it's easier than coolant).
3. The overflow tube is faulty.
4. The thermostat is faulty, and that won't really prevent contracting cooland syphoning back in from the overflow.

I would rule out the first three.
It's a new cap but not genuine so‍♂️
YEh checked the hose for leaks and all good.
overflow tube??

The rubber hose that runs from the side of the filler neck (near the cap) to the overflow bottle.

For what is worth, and if it was me,
And for the case of the exercise so you don't get stranded at the most inconvenient time,
because you know that is when it will happen,
"murphy's law"
I would replace the thermostat, and the radiator cap !
at a guestimate
Thermostat & Gasket approx. $30 [Supercheap, or depending were you buy it]
Radiator Cap approx. $15 [Supercheap, or depending where you buy it]
approx. 3 hours [being generous] to do the thermostat, including refill the system, and put some glycol in it,
bleed the system with the bleed screws, and see that the clean fresh water/glycol is coming out.
Most important, make sure you get all the Air out [well most of it] from the system,
Do it once and do it properly ;)
and it shouldn't have to touch for a while.
Good luck ;)

Cheers,
I've heard they can be a bitch to replace. Will look into it!
Thanks again

I thought you may have meant the actual overflow hose from the coolant bottle. Which is why I asked. Thought there may have been something special in it. Cheers
