Had my 6L Crewie now for 8 yrs, to my knowledge the pump/sender/internal filter pad has never been removed nor replaced.
As a maintenance item I want to remove & replace it.
So I Just bought a new OEM fuel pump sender assy from GM & I'm in the midst of removing the oem inlet filter to replace this with a guauze/screen then fit an external efi filter inline under the tray. Below have posted a few pics of the inlet/ bottom of the pump. when I removed the oem filter pad it has a plastic cover over another very small port, can anyone tell me the relevance of this port as I spoke to my mechanic & he has no idea, as most just replace the entire assy & that's about it.

To clarify if you look at second pic the lower port is the one am speaking of.

Thanks for looking.

The filter screen is not a maintenance item. You only need to replace the main filter.

Crewmans and One Tonners only have an intank filter pad, eg no remote replaceable filter element. Your reply is not helpful & does not answer my question!!

VZ Crewman, VZ Cross 8, & ya mum.
You might have the wrong pump.
Early VZ had a fuel return as well. 06/07 only has the two ports with a one way system.

But that might be for V6's only?

*edit: No, there is return systems and non return systems fitted across VZ in V8 and V6.
Some sedans had the fuel filter external. Utes didn't.

I couldn't find a clear diagram showing the pump assembly in its entirety to help you.

*edit on the edit. Sorry don't mind me. Completely miss read the post.
Thats the underside not the top.

*edit on the edit on the edit. Found it!
It is a vapour out port. Fuel in the big port. Impeller inside, vapour occurs with the spinning, it vents out the little port back into the tank. Thats it. definitely :D

@Fu Manchu yes you misunderstood my question, I have a Gen4 L98 in my 06 VZ Crewman. I have the correct sender unit bought from GM using my Vin & yes it's a single pipe sender the tank has a seperate vent to canister. Has no fuel return pipe to tank like VY etc. My sender has a bypass valve that exhausts excess pump pressure internally to tank as the injectors close off.

The lower second pic above of my pump shows the upper 11mm port as the pump suction, was wondering what the relevance of the smaller port, as it has a small plastic cover built into the filter pad with a small bleed off slot, you may be able to see this in the pic below of the pad.

See the bottom of my post and the answer is there.
I like digging through stuff to find how these cars tick.
I learned something new again yesterday :)

They do have a replaceable filter it's inline near the tray

I just looked up the part number for the VZ one tonner it's Z586. I'll check the crewman but I remember doing the one tonner because it's in a bad spot to get to.

Edit Yea it seems some are intake which is weird. Holden leave me scratching my head sometimes.

As I said either VY-VZ Tonners or Crewman don't have an external filter, unless someone has fitted it a/m which is what I will be doing, very easy to do too.
