VZ Adventra SX6
Hi guys,
I recently purchased a new Adventra SX6, it'll click over 1000km's this week.

My questions are:
Is 17l/100km for an average speed of 27km/h the expected fuel consumption? This is recorded mainly going to work which is quite stop/start. This weekend I'm taking it for a haul along the Great Ocean Road so I'll see how it goes on the open road.

At what kind of km's should the engine have loosened up and settle down?

My old VX would normally get about 450km to a tank (65 litres) around town, whereas this car is looking like it's heading for 400-430 on a 75 litre tank doing the same run as the VX.

I realise she's a fair bit heavier than the VX, but I wouldn't have expected this much of a difference. Or, am I just being impatient and should wait till the thing has had a chance to settle down?

Thanks guys,
Si

Si,

My Exec Wag covers the total range of speeds every day from Highway work through to very slow driving depending on the area and the load that I am escorting. I have now completed 48,000k's in the past 8 months and the fuel usage varies from 8.5L/100 H/way (normal driving) to 10.5L/100 H/way escorting with City driving averaging 13.5L/100 normal driving through to 18L/100 slow escorting.

Not sure if this info is any help

Regards

Jim

My Dad briefly had a new SX6 Adventra and the fuel economy was as bad as the LX8 that he has now is. I have heard a few people comment on brand new Alloytecs being very thirsty though for the first 20,000km of their lives.

I had an SV6 for a while but it had 25,000km on it when I got it and its fuel economy didn't change throughout the 11,000km I did in it before I got the SS. Averaged around 15L/100km city, didn't do the highway much.

Thanks guys, I appreciate that.
I'm also wondering how accurate my fuel guage is after reading the EXTENSIVE post regarding inaccurate VZ fuel gauges. From now on I'll keep a manual check on fuel consumption I think.

My LX8 for a average speed of 27klm/hr would be 22 L/100klm and approx 12 L/100klm for 90klm/hr average.

Our Adventra has done 19,000 kms and the fuel economy has improved out of sight in the last few thousand, we did a 600km straight trip this week and the economy is around 10.9/ per 100kms same trip 5000kms ago was 13 per 100kms.

Hope that helps.

Sounds like your daily commute is much the same as mine, stop start for 32klm per day. Yep, I think 17.0L/100K is what to expect. With a normal amount of freeway and country tripping in my first 10,000 klm I am now averaging 13.8L/100K. The variance between city and freeway fuel consumption is enormous. This week I tripped from my home in the north west of Sydney to Shellharbour and back using motorways all the way. only three sets of traffic lights on the entire trip. I reset trip computer B for the trip and for the 320 Klm I got 7.8L/100K.

Hi guys,
Thanks very much for your feedback, it's been very helpful.

I just got back from a weekend trip along the Great Ocean Road, a good drive for running in a car I reckon, lots of windy bits and not a great amount of straight boring constant speed sections.
Best I got out of it sitting at a constant 105km/h was 9.5-9.8l/100km, that was on the straights to Geelong. On straights along the GOR, was normally around 10.8-11.2/100 or so. Sounds like that's about par for the course?

The car has just clocked over 1750km's about 800 of those done this weekend.

The horrendous rain this weekend sure made me appreciate the 4WD and safety features of the big beast I can tell you!

Thanks,
Si
