as the description says, I have seen the white background hsv dashes in many R8's etc. I have notice there are 3 lcd displays as oppose to one on the vy. will a vz hsv dash with three lcd displays work in my vy ute? if not can i get a vy hsv one that will?
In a word, NO! Hi, The VY and VZ clusters use different plugs. The way to go is to get a VY cluster, but there is a big trap for new players. The VY and VY II use different fuel sender units. The clusters fit OK, but if you get the wrong one, the fuel guage will work backwards and the Distance to Empty function on the trip computer will be useless. This problem can be corrected by changing the fuel sender unit to a compatiable one - this cost $410 for the only person I am aware of who has done it. There have been statements that the problem can be fixed by reprogramming the cluster, but I am not personally sure of this. Best way is to do the necessary research, and make sure that you get a compatiable cluster in the first place. I have put a Calais cluster into my VY II, and very happy with the outcome.
im also wanting to change my dash is series the only thing to look for? like does v6,v8 matter? or manual or auto? and if changing the dash only, everything should work perfect?
Minux Are you questioning the statement? Your dash has the three window compuiter, which I imagine is what was being referred to. This raises a point I have wondered for some time. Is the HSV instrument facia, such as yours, available as a separate part, so that a standard Berlina or Calais instrument panel could be converted to appear like an HSV? If it could, it would be much cheaper than buying a complete panel and having to recalibrate or worry about compatibility of connnections. The only fiddly bit would be removing and replacing the needles.
all the dashes look identical in basic form from what i can see. if they disassembled into seperate parts it would work. i mean all the guages are in the same spots arnt they?
Yes, series is the only gothcha. The cluster will likely need a Tech2 programming by a Holden dealer to set things like engine, transmission, tyres etc. If the cluster has less than 100 Km, then the dealer can set the odometer to the same as the old car. If more than 100 km, then only an instrument specialist can adjust the odometer reading.
I have a series 2 vy ute, and it only has one lcd window, thats why I'm worried if I go and buy this hsv instrument cluster, if it will work?
So you would need to first of all buy the dials, then get holden to program, then get a specialist to reset your odometer... that'd all be rather expensive wouldn't it? Also, just curious would tyre pressure work or not? I'm guessing not all holdens come with tyre pressure sensors?
Best Option! The best option is to buy a cluster for the correct series with less than 100 Km on the odometer. That then only requires the Tech2 programming. Cost of the programming varies widely, but never as much as $100. Even if you find a cluster with a similar odometer reading, it will still most likely require a Tech2. I have seen new three window clusters go on Ebay for as little as $160, though HSV ones are usually $300 or more. The programming re tyres relates to rolling diameter of the many different wheel/tyre combinations available across the Commodore platform range, and the subsequent effect on odometer and speedometer calibration. It costs lots when a mistake with the series is made. I saw comments from one VY Series 1 owner who bought a VY II Berlina cluster for $165 or so, then spent $410 changing the fuel sender unit. His total cost of $575 was a lot more than buying a new one from a dealer - the quote I received from a dealer was $435.
The conversion you are wanting to do I did to my vy s2 s pack v6 ute and after having put a 2nd hand calais 3 window cluster in I went to my local dealer and purchased a new HSV cluster. The guys in spares worked out the correct one (cost $600.00)then the dealer calibrated it to suit (correct odometer,v6,manual etc) then I purchased the HSV centre console gauges to match which fitted perfectly with some help from some people on this site regarding oil pressure sender (cost of guages $660.00).Prices maybe cheaper now as I did this nearly 12mths ago.Have since done a cut and shut on 2 console fascias and have cup holders in non climate control console.
