Hi all, ive had a search through and couldn't find someone with the same issue.
When driving a short distance (under 10min) say to the shops and back.
When I turn the car back on at the shops it is telling me the temp is 126deg.
Obviously this isn't the case on such a short drive.
Engine is still cool to touch and can open the radiator cap still.
Longer trips with It intermittently jumping to full and back to normal has the motor physically getting up to temp etc but the gauge still playing up.

Would this be a faulty sensor and if so which one would I be best to look at first?
My understanding is the LS1 has more than one sensor it reads off?
(car is a late 2004 VZ LS1 Calais)

Well my new part arrived and I have now installed it.
Had to re-wire for a new plug and the old wiring was pretty messy so tidied that up.
All seems well so far.

He hasn't been on the site since Dec 2019 so I doubt he will get back to you. You can drain the cooloant ot you can treat it like changing an element in a hot water heater. Leve it sealed up and let the vaccuum hold most of it in place. Out with the old in with the new. If you take the radiator cap off it will leak out at a rapid rate.. If you get it in quickly you can simply run it up to temp to check it and do a bleed just in case.

I trust this helps/
