Thought I’d share my fix for a VZ MAF fault.

Aussie VZ MAFs are highway robbery for a replacement. Prices of $150-$250 for a replacement MAF. Get stuffed!
Some makes will have similar MAFs at $30-40 on eBay.
I shudder to think of parts shop prices.


So I searched Amazon with it set to the US.
Found the same MAF used on their alloytec models for a fraction of the price here.

Not only that, it came from the US to Perth in about the same time a local online supplier would send.

I ordered an AC Delco but on opening the box it was a Bosch with identical part number.

Now someone recently mentioned how to find the gasket for the air filter box to MAF.

So off I went to Clark Rubber and bought 1/2m of anti slip mat for $8. It is just like the thin matting in tool boxes. (Same)

I made a pressing using the old MAF to get the circle. Cut it out just outside the mark made. Then I fitted it over the old MAF to test the fit. Then using a texta, made an outline of the outter edge of the MAF. I cut just on the inner edge of the line. Then makes the holes with a texta. Used a Stanley knife tip to press in a badly formed small hole. I folded it over and pulled the middle bit out. It stretched over the bolts fine.

I have the original messed up gasket in one pic.

The last one shows the 1/3rd price US MAF with my home made gasket in place. I might still get a craft knife/scalpel and trim those small protusions off.

Suzuki XL7 (yep)

There's heaps more.
