Simple question. How do i open the key to replace battery and new case? Seems as though it is welded together!
Stand down, just needed a bit of brute force, thought i was going to break something!
Even the simple things appear hard, seems as if the battery is soldered in, how do you get that out?

You don’t. There is a video showing how to desolder it from the board but first you need to find the battery with the terminals on it. They are super rare to find.

The key is glued closed.

Generally you are best to pay the $120 for a new key.

You can get them from Supercheap much cheaper but you need the programming obd2 gadget as well, so then that costs a total that’s pushing up to just getting a genuine key.

I’ve had many poor experiences with after market keys.

Ah, but they can be opened, AND, you can fit a cheap slip in battery after chopping the tabs off the existing battery.
I used a very small screw driver and hammer to lever/chop off the tabs then simply slipped a new battery between the tabs and closed the case.
The battery I used was from a $3.50 pack of 5 batteries.

When putting the case back together, 3 small spots of super glue are good to hold it together but not so much that you cannot pull it apart again,
as I did today to take the pic.

You can buy a new Genuine Key Head for approx $40 from eBay,
Which will last another 16 years, and wont fall apart
I have purchsed a fair few from the same seller [on eBay],
and sold them on to customers, plus the cost of programming them in for them,
never had a problem, or come back.

On a side note :
I did try the repalcement cases, and they were just a piece chinese crap,
dont hold together, buttons too sensative,
which means when you have them in your pocket, the buttons are being pressed, so the battery can go flat,
Not water proof, the slip ring contact pin can fall out and get lost,
Then when you go to start your car, it wont, and it will be at the most inconvenient time !!!
Then you will say, I should of bought a new one !
In a nut shell, "fix it once, and fix it properly".

$20 off Aliexpress for the lot. Better than original.

No need to break the bank.

That red thing is rubber. Makes it impervious to dropping, super resistant to water, and very hard to lose.

Yes I have seen those,
That may seem to work on a repaired Key Head, but its not 100% fool proof, not like an original Key Head,
as mentioned before, the buttons dont work correctly after you open the housings up,
because they never go back together the same, because the plastic has been tampered with/damaged/stretched.
The Rubber cover maybe Super resistant the water,
but water can still get in under the rubber cover, and into the Key Head, because the original seal is broken.
if you install this, you creating another problem in the equation of the buttons not working.

This one is an entire new key. Gotta get it programmed, but. Quality is great. I replaced the battery in the old one and glued it up, but I keep that one as the spare. This one is much nicer.

Oh, I stand corrected,
I thought it was a silicone cover,
If its a sealed Key Head, I'm impressed,
I have never seen the actual colour Key Heads.
