VZ SV6 Alloytech Bad pinking (preignition).

On any incline or moderate acceleration from stop or tight corner, engine pinks really badly. Bearable on flat road , but shocking on a hill. It normally uses 91 Octane fuel.

Have you tried throwing in some 95/98? Have you checked the spark plugs?

Not yet because it has always been OK on 91 Octane in the past. I will check the plugs though.

Check for fault codes. Can be a bad tank of fuel too.

mine seems to ping a bit on 91 , so I haven't used that for ages , 98 from Mobil is what I use .

This is pinking heaps if going uphill. Will put some 98 in it today and see if it helps. Anyone in NZ heard of a bad batch of fuel from Mobil here.

Not that I am aware of , dodgy fuel is why I stay way from Z .and Caltex

It does sound like bad fuel, put a bottle of octane booster/fuel system cleaner in it as well as the 98, and see how you go. Not Kiwi bashing, but do you guys actually call it "pinking"? It's always been called pinging here, ie; pre-ignition or knocking.
