OK so in the past i made a thread about some issued i was having with my VZ SV6. People on here seemed to be pretty helpful, so i thought i'd throw up another thread with my new found problems.

problem 1:

My brakes are making a hellishly loud and annoying screech/scraping sound. Ive narrowed it down to my front drivers side wheel. I only notice the sound when light to moderatly braking at lowish speeds, and when rolling along at say ~10kms. Now it squeels when braking, and the scratching sound is when rolling along. the scratching can be described as having a rock or similair stuck between the pads/disc. So ive pulled the wheel off, taken of the caliper to clean it out and found nothing in there. While i was at it, gave the disc a spray down with some anti-squeel/ disc cleaner and now about a month later is still doing it as strong as ever! Now at the last service the pads were replaced and i was told it could have just been the pads and disc having un even wear and it should wear in eventually. Does this sound like it? if so, how much longer is this going to take!

Problem 2:

Ive recently fitted my 15" sub to the car. This thing can only be described as a device that could potentially kill anyone sitting in the rear seat, and cause hearing damage to who ever sits in the front. :D

Now to the problem haha. Its causing some CRAZY amount of rattle, coming from god know where. I think ive narrowed it down to the parcel shelf. Ive tried putting ample preasure on the parcel shelf while the sub is on but the shelf still vibrates a little and the rattle is still there. Im not 100% certail thats even what it is so, anyone had a similiar problem and can recommend how to stop this rattle/ stop the parcel shelf vibrating?

Problem 3:

When the air con is on low setting or 1 i guess, a slight ticking sound(for lack of better words) can be heard somewhere inside the air con/dash. Sounds like its coming from deep inside the main centre air con vents located above the head unit. When turning the air con up to HI then back down it seems to stop it, but only for a minute or so max. Anyone know what the hell this is or how to stop it? Even if its just one of those commodore quirks that i have to live with, id like to know what the hell it is!

Thats all for now haha, and i hope someone out there can help me!

Problem 1:
Most likely are the pads! do u know wat material Composite or metallic? cause Metallic tend to make more of a screeching noise.

Problem 2:
Best way to stop the rattle would to put some sound deadening material or foam.
Or where the sub comes into contact with the boot put some foam around there too.

Problem 3:
Foreign object stuck inside!! leaf, dirt etc.....

For the first issue. I might suggest taking it to a mechanic and taking him for a quick spin around the block and pointing out the sound, could be something like a bearing hub. This is pretty easy to replace as you buy the bearing hub, disconnect the ABS lead for the old one and take it off, whack the new one on and plug the ABS back in and that's pretty much it heh. (the ABS electronics are located inside the bearing hub these days ever since the VT's so they are a replacable item these days).

For the sub issue, your just going to have to have the sub going and press against every panel you can find in the boot area of the car to find the one that's rattling and then get some sound deadner for it.

Not sure what the ticking sound in the aircon could be though heh. Unless something's managed to find it's way down the pipe to the fan and is rattling round?

as for the pads, im not sure what they are, just got replaced when last owner got a RWC.

Im looking into some sound deading/lots of material to jam inside the parcel shelf haha. Do places like clark rubber or anything sell actual foam material, like the fuzzy stuff found inside some sub boxes? Ive tried having it going with the boot lid popped and rattle is still there, so has to be around the parcel shelf area somewhat. Have tried with the centre seat down and putting my hand through to press against the parcel shelf from underneath and still does nothing. Im quiet certain its just the top of the parcel shelf jumping off the metal underneath, i dont think its something im going to eliminate totally.

is it hard to check out the air con pipes ect for possible objects?would it have made it past the air con compressior ect right up into near the cabin? or deeper inside?

Sometimes it can be the 6x9 panels in the parcel shelf that havn't been pushed through, check the sheet metal around that area, if not then the crossmembers in the sheets for the parcel shelf too. Also if you're concerned about a bit more weight in the car, sound deadening material (the proper stuff) actually weighs a bit heh.

To be able to get to the aircon pipes you'll have to pull your dash apart :D fun fun.

my sv6 had problem 1.

I took it to my mechanic and he fabricated something to put between the pad (aftermarket) and the caliper (i think, something like that) to stop the squeaking. All good now.

I think i have Problem number 3 as well...i thought it was just the fan . Holden quirk i think, crank up the stereo :p

Might have to stop by the mechanics tomorrow arvo about problem 1 then.

As for the metal cover for the 6x9s, it shouldnt be that, as the amp is bolted onto one of them haha. Even though ive tried applying preassure to all the underneath of the parcel shelf like those areas and still getting it.

Should i decide to one day pull the dash apart for the ticking sound, any ideas on what i should do/look for? blowing it out with the compressior ect isnt going to have much effect, seeing as its the same as having the air con on. Dont like my chances of getting an arm down the pipes either lol.

mum used to have SV6 company cars, a fw of them has problem 1 and others didnt (they were replaced at 10 000 kays, yeh go figure?)

Ive nver had it with my Acclaim and we've never had it with the Adventra.

Dont know what the story is, although my last set of genuine brake pads never used to sit in properly and used to rattle against the disc when I was driving so it could just be that their not sitting in properly and rattling on brake application

OK an update.

problem 1:

took car to local mechanic, said cant see anything wrong. Took car for test drive, couldn't hear anything.WTF!!!!

I took the car straight there from home, so im thinking it might only happen after a lengthy drive(when they heat up maybe). What are the names of some reputable brake specialists in Brisbane anyone know? Might try my luck with one of them, see what they say.

Problem 2:

Went to try my local Clark rubber for something to fill every small space i could find, only to find out, they are gone now! Haven't found another one as of yet, but will do this one day haha.

problem 3:

haven't even noticed if its still happening. Liking the windows down lately. haha.

My car has a similar problem with 3. Except it sounds like its coming from the passenger side under the dash. I think it might be something stuck and hitting the fan causing a tick like sound. Got no idea how to fix it though.
