Thanks fellas. I checked battery earth and stater cables today - both good and tight. I'm not happy with 9v but 10 should be ok when cranking but I'll probly get a new battery in the next week or 2. I'll clean the battery earth under the alternator within the next day or so. Where are other harness earths located?

Intermittent probs are always a pain in the arse.

There’s one on the left rear cylinder head.
There’s a 7mm bolt for the ECM earth above the ECM.
There’s two earths below the ABS module.
There is a cluster fk of earths behind the battery on the inner guard. That one has several major earths terminating into an 8 pin plug that earths to the body. Clean the pins. Retap the thread. Wire brush clean the bolt attaching it or use a new one.

Clean the threads on all the earth bolts.

I might have missed one or two, so I’m sure someone will chime in the rest.

Might not fix the problem, but what if something so cheap and easy does fix the problem? That’s my point. Process of elimination.

Oh and pop the wiper cowl. That has the main firewall earth on the passenger side to the body. The BCM has a number of earths relying on that earth strap that is prone to corroding because of the type of earth strap it is.

A few days ago I cleaned some of the earths as suggested. I didn't get into the one under the wiper cowl yet and I couldn't locate the one at rear of left cyl head - may need a small mirror. The one below the ABS unit where the battery and harness are earthed seemed to be the culprit - nothing shiny, so I cleaned it up and so far it's not cut out immediately after starting as it was doing intermittently.
