VZ V6 Ute
Hi all,

My MY06 VZ ute has a tantrum at the petrol station occasionally when I put fuel in and threatens to stall, or sometimes if it’s been in the sun all day (like if it's parked outside work). If it does actually stall it will start the second time. Happens less if you feed her a tank of 98, and goes into low revs before stalling instead of just shitting itself like it would on 91. No fault codes, neither my regular mechanic nor Holden can figure it out as it always behaves itself when in for a service. It’s been doing it for the last few years. I figured that one day it would break properly and I would fix it then but that day has not yet come ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I've been living with this issue for years but am now looking at selling the ute don't really want to eat $$$$ on the sale price if I can help it.

ECU/BCM have been replaced, fuel pump has been replaced, have tried replacing the fuel pump relay, just got a new key and key slip ring. Thought the latter had fixed it but the sly old girl waited until I had a deposit on a new car to start playing up again.

Any thoughts?

I thought of that, but once it's running there's no issue with it. My experience with the CAS in my VX was once it crapped itself I had to keep popping it in neutral at the lights and rev slightly to stop it from stalling. Admittedly I am not mechanically minded.

If you changed the fuel pump, try changing the fuel filter, sounds like your getting a slight blockage somewhere, might even be the intank filter or vac lines.

I'd suggest it's safer not to have the engine runing while pumping fuel at the bowser

Seriously, as already mentioned by others, I'd check the tank breathing system & purge valve to ensure it works as intended.

Thanks brains trust! After doing a bit of reading I'm leaning towards the issue being the purge valve - amazing what you can turn up when you know the right keywords to search. Have to see if I can dig up the old workshop manual (which is theoretically in the shed somewhere) and have a bit of a suss.

I have a link for the VZ factory manual if you search VZ factory workshop manual. Post #58

Purge valve should be under the oil filter, if you type in vz purge valve in the search box it will give you a forum that's already been explained.
