Haven't found anything much here, youtube or elsewhere about VZ or Alloytec throttle bodies.
So I thought I might post up some stuff about them.

I've been having issues with mine.
Replaced it with one from the wrecker.
It was a dud. Took it back, they swapped it for another.
It too is a dud but works better than the others.
I had a relearn done on it, improved for a day or so.
They have all logged codes but leading up to this.

So why?
Well I pulled the cover off the original and found some of the contacts on the resistor were fused together. I've seen this in a youtube video about GM throttle bodies.
To get the cover off, you just flick off the clips with a screw driver. No need to freak out, it goes back together easy as.

So I pulled the one on the car off and got the cover off and similar thing.

The solution from here is to get a new throttle body.
Sorry/not sorry Holden. Your prices are redick!
I'll be sourcing one from the eBay's.

After some searching things get a bit murky though.
So lets nut this out.

VZ throttle bodies are more expensive than VE or VF for the most part.
It seems Holden dropped the Bosch design in models following the VZ.

There are loads of ads for VZ, VE and VF throttle bodies.
Some suggest their Hitachi style throttle bodies fit VZ LE0 & VE LY7 (high output) set ups.
The VZ's have the plug underneath and from what I can tell, Bosch made them. However I have a VE and the two throttle bodies are not compatible. Different plugs and even LY7 is a bigger unit. It won't even bolt up. So the intake manifold is also *different to VZ LE0 (*where the throttle body bolts on). The pinouts may well also be different.

Are VZ LY7 manifolds different to series 1 VE LY7?
Are the throttle bodies bigger on VE LY7?

The LY7's seem to also have Hitachi fitted sometimes or in VE's they all have them.
(If you know more about this, post up good people)

The VF's have an outer design similar to the VZ with the plug underneath. It's a different shape and the pin outs may well be wired differently.

I'll be ordering on of the Bosch ones to be sure. Please post if you can add to any of this, in particular, what alternative throttle bodies can be used. VZ throttle bodies may well be more expensive because they are less common than VE and VF.

As the years go on, peeps hopefully nut out how to adapt when supply of new VZ throttle bodies gets low.

Hi Fu Manchu
Great thread.

Just a comment on one of your images where you mention wires fused together. The TPS is a variable resistor and those little groups of fingers are called 'wipers'. Each group of fingers is actually one conductor, so it is okay if they 'touch'. But they should not be deformed in any way, as their contact with the carbon resistive surface is critical. That particular example in your picture looks to have some damage and /or is perhaps worn, as I suppose you would expect from use.

Thanks for the info Manchu great thread.

When the throttle body is removed from the plenum is that gasket reusable or does it need to be replaced every time?

Provided it comes away clean, no it doesn't.
My VZ had a paper composite gasket, later models had a metal/silicone gasket.
Quite sure my VE LY7 has a paper composite gasket as well.

We can do genuine VZ throttle bodies cheaper off ebay if needed ;)

I would avoid chinese units like machter as they don't tend to last very long.
