I have the engine not starting with a slow crank.

Thinking back, the starter speed has been gradually getting a little slower than what is ideal. This is going back over a few months. Not been overly concerned.

Battery
• Has a green indicator in the little window.
• Has about 12.6v
• Drops to 8-9v on start up (slow crank, no start)

Starter Motor
• A year or so old. Reconditioned cheapy.

System
• No codes
• No dash lights of concern
• System check "ok"

I will keep digging for info, but as always it's handy having you folks chime in with some guidance.

My current train of thought is a faulty starter/ worn out starter. (Poorly reconditioned)

Manual states 7.2v @ 18ºC as minimum voltage while the motor is cranked for 30 seconds.
Mine is 8-9v.

I have gone through the table for trouble shooting "slow crank" and it seems to point to replacing the starter motor.
1. Review System Operation (Which in affect means there is no crank)
2. Diagnostic system check (Q: Is the problem isolated to this system? A: Yes. Q: Are there DTC's A: No)
3. Repair or replace starter motor.

All the terminals etc look good. The engine bay still looks new and clean.

Also, of the starters fitted, were they all Mitsubishi, or were there Hitachi as well? Which is better?
Also looks like the same used on VE and VF V6?

Edit:
Looks like
VZ-VE have a pin type (2004-2013)
VE-VF have plug type. (2013 onwards)

More or less the same motor.
AC Delco make plug type.

What's the battery cca? Proper way to check cranking volts is with a proper system not multimeter, have you checked the voltage at the starter motor to see if its not losing power.

Can’t get to starter motor so easily. I see what you mean, check the cable for resistance or damage. (Unlikely)
550CCA battery.

Resolution to this was a dud battery.
Everything else was fine. Even though the battery didn’t show normal signs of going flat. Still held 12.6 v.

I needed the car quick and got a trusted mechanic to do it. They used their battery test equipment and had it sorted.

It was going to take me too long to get a starter, so that meant swallowing my pride and getting some to do it. Lucky. Would have solved nothing.
