Last Thursday I went into my car to go to work and it would start. The engine would turn but wouldn’t start. I thought it was the battery because the boot was left open but RACV came out, did a battery test and all was fine, he said the key was the issue.

After getting a new key programmed the car started fine but when I got home that night it wouldn’t start at all. Next morning to go to work it started, leaving work it started but when I want to drive it when I get home it won’t start.

The locksmith that did my key did a system check and came up with nothing. When I put the key in and turn it, everything lights up and after it does the system check it says gives the SVS signal, even though my car was serviced 3,000 kms ago. Starting to think either ignition barrel or ECU

here’s what the car is doing

First try pressing the unlock Button on the Key head before inserting the key,
Then try and start it,
It seems like the Immobiliser, going by your clip,
or a electrical plug and/or a earthing issue.
I read somewhere, someone else had a similar issue, with earthing,
or it may of been the start motor connections ?
At lease you have a starting point to look for the fault,

No luck with trying that, did that last week too. I did have a look at the wiring from the ignition and they all looked good, same with the plugs to the ecu and everything looked good. It’s annoying because I feel as though the problem is between the ignition to the ecu. But then again, I’m just a plumber :p

If you can get the car scanned, because it may have a silent error that wont activate the MIL,
Or
their could be an error in the BCM history, that could hold the Key [no pun intended] to the non starting issue.

How likely is it that I stuffed the BCM from trying to start the car when the key was stuffed. By the way the key that I was using was the same one I’ve had since buying the car, for a few months though the key was falling apart and I neglected getting it fixed straight a way. There was never any problems with the car till last week and since buying a new key, I’m thinking that all the time’s I tried starting it with a stuffed key might caused problems within

this may even be how it was programmed in to the car,
In saying that, did they Duplicate the Key Head ?
Because the Original Key Head programming maybe the error in the BCM,
So they have just duplicated the error ?
I stand corrected if I am wrong.

I had a friend that has the exact same issue as you,
So I said to him to wiggle the Key Head around [not to much to break the Key Off] so the pin on the key would contact the slipring around the ignition switch, and he got it started,
I told him to come straight around [to my place] and put the scanner in it,
it had a slip ring error [which does not activate the MIL], and he was using an old Key Head,
I had one in stock, placed the Key Blade into the new Key Head, binned the old one, after destroying it,
Went out and programmed the new one in,
Started first time, and has every time, as it a daily car,
This was 8 months ago.
The rest is history.

I had the exact same issue with my VZ - except that it made a lot of cam chain noise for the past 5000kms.
Had all kinds of experts check everything, got a new key cut on their advice, burn out a starter motor trying to get it running (because it would start for a second or two every now and then). Tried every combination of buttons and door locks - as advised by the experts.
In the end, aftere days and days of reearching the issue - including finding and searching this forum - I came to the conclusion that the only thing left was the cam chains and tensioners worn out.
Replaced those (see my thread here) and (almost) everything is back to normal and starting is totally reliable and nice and quiet.
PS: the remaining issue is that it won't rev over 4000rpm, I'm suspecting that the inlet cam advance mechanism is clogged with gunk.....)
Cheers,
Joe
