Yep, brick here too. Luckily only one of the walls in the room I will be doing it is an internal single leaf brick wall. The rest are double brick with cavity.
Because it's neater, and there's not a single cable to be seen! And for those with kids, there's no chance they'll pull/push it off the entertainment cabinet.
There should be no cables seen when it's on the stand either - you just run them down the back of the stand. Maybe. But then why put a nice climbable cabinet right below the shiny TV? I know it comes to personal preference. It just always seems silly to me to go to the effort of wall mounting and then placing a cabinet right below it. If you want a cabinet there anyway then why not stick the TV on it?
you seem to have answered your own question  some prefer the minimalist approach and having everything hidden so its clean others may not give a rats and be happy with semi hidden cables or not both to hide them at all. I know we cant hide them because of where it is and the way it needs to face (cannot flush mount and cabinet is on a bit of an angle) plus the cabinet serves other purposes of storage, games consoles, DVD players, VCRs, maybe even a Betamax. (we still rock a VCR in ours) but as you said it comes down to personal preferences.
Wont be long until everything runs without cables. All you'll need is a power point, Foxtel, PVR's, gaming consoles etc will all run on WiFi, Bluetooth or some other kind of magic.
I bought TV straps for my 55" that straps the TV to the TV cabinet. Also bought a TV defender that's a peice of acrylic that straps around the TV, for those times your toddler decides to throw things ! Payed off several times lol

Won't lie.. Saw your photos yesterday, was in absolute envy as just how much freaking class and swag you have in your house, proceeded to clean and polish all my furniture last night LOL
Most TV's have a safety strap in the box these days. Pretty soon all you will need is a chip in your head and everything will be streamed straight to your memory Matrix style.
As a parent of a toddler, that photo screams death trap!! Its like a "spot the potential death traps in this photo" test.
Just imagine if it malfunctioned , All those re-runs of Neighbours going through your head and there's f*ck all you could do about it .
The result of the weekends efforts: It looks higher in the pic than it does IRL. The height is spot on when sitting on my lounge. I used this wall mount: LCD LED Plasma Flat Tilt TV Wall Mount Bracket 32 40 42 46 50 52 55 60 64 70 75 | eBay Less than half the price of similar ones in local shops, but with decent quality material, solid metal and it lines up properly. I also used the wall plates from Jaycar with the bristles on the front. The only issue I had was that the power cable for the TV is hard wired, so I had to cut a second hole in the wall to run it through as it wont fit through the wall plate. I ran a second HDMI cable through so I dont have to muck around if I add a PS4 or something else to it. All up it's cost $42 to mount it. Not a bad result. Next DIY project is pool landscaping.
