Here's the guts of the ECU that I had to replace on my VZ Berlina. Apologies for the slightly fuzzy and dishevelled pic, but I had to smash and lever off the brown plastic lid (it was glued down), and the whole board is covered in a clear, sticky gel-like substance which makes it difficult to get everything in focus. I'm guessing the gel helps prevent corrosion, and also minimises any harmful effects of vibration. This little lot cost me $1000 to replace. :(

when i was 21 i bought a chipped car. wanted to find out what chip so opened up the ecu. still scares me to this day I could have broken something and fucked up the biggest cost in my life at the time.

Like a VL RB30 air flow meter, fine wires, built in I/C and clear jelly...
