hey guys, had a bit of an issue cruising to perth today, was sitting on about 90, and had my oil warning light pop up followed by the warning noise. looked down and noticed my powertrain warning light was on as well? as soon as the oil light warning tone had finished the light turned off. pulled over and checked the oil and it was all good, bit on the low side but still all good. as i drove it a bit more (few kms down the road) the oil warning light and powertrain warning light would flash erratically, not following a particular pattern. going to top it off on oil anyway, when i pick it up, was just curious as to why the powertrain warning light was flashing as well? its due for a service anyway so as soon as i can bring it back to mandurah ill book it in, cheers, dylan
The sender unit at the back of the manifold has gone $90 at holden you have to lay across the engine to reach down the back and will need a 30/32 mm long reach socket to get the ####er out
Ahh so I'm not in any danger of my car being damaged? Like I said I checked the oil, was low but was still in the ok part
if its your oil pressure sensor the powertrain light should come on only but go to a mechanic with a tech 2 and you find out in a matter of seconds and most mechanics wont charge you you use their tech 2
both that and the oil pressure light are coming on, randomly. i checked the oil and it was fine? like i said i just want to know if i should be right to hobble it back from perth to mandurah, and then ill take it to ultratune.
since you are in perth just go to a mechanic and ask them to check it out quickly. when my oil pressure sensor went i drove it for about 6 months before i could be bothered fixing it but my powertrain light used to come on once every while
yeah it comes on and off every now and then, its just the oil pressure light that bothers me a little, but at first i thought id dumped all my oil on the road. thanks for the help mate
Don't just assume that it is the sensor and continue driving the car if you can avoid it. I've seen several oil pressure sensors fail and not once have I seen them fail with an oil pressure light illuminated, only ever the powertrain light. Swap it over ASAP, just in case you actually have a problem.
yeah mate thats why i said im just wondering if ill be cool to hobble it home, and then from there to the mechanic. ill be fixing it as quick as possible, was just wondering if it would be a bad idea to drive it all considering their is still oil in it and everything seems fine?
Having oil is not the same as having oil pressure. You can kill an engine very quickly even with a sump full of nice fresh clean oil if there isn't enough oil pressure to keep the load bearing surfaces seperated.
so has anyone got any ideas of what it could potentially be? im hoping it is just a faulty oil pressure sensor. im **** scared it could be low oil pressure or something, and im going to destroy my LS1. im thinking it might be worth driving it down the road to the mechanic once i pick it up and getting it scanned with a tech2, i get paranoid when things go wrong :/
well sirnemisis you can say you know of an oil pressure switch failing with the oil light illuminated
