Weird silver button that goes green when pressed (PICS)

Would anyone know what this button is for? When pressed it stays green for several seconds then turns off and there is a mechanical sound at the rear of the vehicle.

try and locate the sound, get someone else to press it while you stick your mug under the car where the sound is coming from maybe some type of home job variable exhaust?

The vehicle came from SAPOL.

That looks like a Vandal switch definitely not stock. It may be rear door dead locks.

Looks very aftermarket: position, no symbol, chrome.

Check the wiring near likely components (exhaust, engine bay etc)
