So what do you all prefer and use in your VR or VS? Any particular reasons why? My VS has over 350,000k's and always run on GTX2. Never ever had a problem with frequent services. But today I changed to Valvoline XLD Premium (20W/50) and noticed the oil looks slightly lighter in colour than GTX2. Are there any particular oils you would NEVER use?

    Cheers.

I use Penrite LPG oil. Haven't had any problems with it. No engine deposits left yet. I hear the castrol brand is also good too.

used Shell Helix with about 30ml of molly bond for years, then couldn't get molly bond, so just tried helix and found after about 6 weeks engine sound and felt like ****. Now I use Castrol Magnatec, expensive but nice... apart from having magna in the name...lol

I've always been a fan of Valvoline, in particular the VR1 Race Oil (formerly known as Durablend)

Statesman V6 with 206,000km's gets treated to Shell brand oil every 5,000km's. I am unsure of the name. It aint Ultra or Helix. In a green shaded bottle. Semi synthetic with a weight of 15-50.
    seems to work a treat.

I use Penrite LPG in both my 5.0Lt VR's ( Change oil/filter ever 10,000Km ) and never had any problems. The SS done 240,000Km's. Also used it in my old Torana with a hi reving six and never blew it up. Pulled down motor a few times for mods and found it to be clean.

I've used Castrol for over 25 years and can't complain. I currently use GTX3 in my 5 Litre. Half of the secret is to change the oil at least every 5,000 k's.

I been using mangatec for ages - apparently the "manga" is just lead and it ****s your motor right up (given enough time) - better off with the good stuff - Mobil 1 - this is a according to a professor in mechanical engineering - so you been warned.

    Fully Synthetic for me!

I only use a fully synthetic oil, Mobil 1 in my case.

Performance of the fully synthetic oils is better than those based on mineral oil.

However, you might not want to use a synthetic for the following reasons:

    1. You are not keeping the car long, and don't care if it wears out quicker.

    2. You cannot afford the small premium of synthetic oil, and don't expect to keep the car a long time.

    3. The car already uses a lot of oil, either through external leaks or down the valve guides. Oil usage will go up with a fully synthetic for these scenarios. On the other hand, it should use less oil if it is getting past the rings.

I buy mine at the periodic 15% sales at Kmart.
