Kevin, a pommie mate I lived with for a few years out west Auckland (where else?) in the late seventies had a 100E Prefect with the retired 1600 engine from a formula Ford racing car in it. He bought the used engine from his boss who raced the Formula Fords (they were house painters) and mated it to a 4 speed Lotus gearbox. Kev used to spend every Christmas holiday under the peanut servicing the gearbox clutch and diff. He would have to take off in 2nd then drop back to first when having a drag at traffic lights or the front end would come so far up off the ground that he wouldn't be able to see or steer. Used to scare the shït out of me. It would leave all the Mk 3 Zephyrs and 57 Chevs for dust.
