VS acclaim V6/A4
no maximum, but if they are high it usualy means lots of carbon build up on the piston and head. the main thing to look for is variation in pressures between the cylinders, and if all yours are even its in pretty good nick! max variation is 30%, which is pretty bloody large really:eek:

The rough approx I did work out, should make it lie at around 130PSi, so that's a perfectly acceptable number.
The compression in an engine can change as the compression ratio is altered in the engine.

if you are interested the motor was rebuilt @80 000ks ago
(or so he says) and the results were cylinder no 1 and 2 130psi
3 and 4 135psi
5 and 6 140psi
the motor was tested cold
thank all

The higher then what I worked out, could be due to the fact it's been rebuilt, with the heads shaved. This bumps the CR up a little bit (hence, more pressure)

You have a 10PSi difference, on a 130PSi minimum, this is around 8% difference, totally acceptable.

What is the rest of the vehicle like? How does the gearbox feel when driving? Does it down shift fairly quickly when you accelerate?

havent driven it yet due to flat tyre and some front end damage
but i know the guy that owns it and remeber beening in the car and it seemed good-no problems that he talked about-
the front gaurd headlight and bonnet need to be replaced
but a friend of mine works in smash repair and said he can fix it
will put some tyres on it on the weekend and go for a quick drive before i buy
