what could be the cause of this little issue

hey folks as the title states i have a little problem with my vr calais the reverse lights work when they want to,what could be causing this...would it be best to get a new rear wiring loom for that section of the car and see how that goes or seek help from an auto electrician...
any help/suggestions would be great thanks guys n girls....

Could be the switch on the trans or a bad connection at the shifter.

oh yay...was thinking switch myself.....how painful is it to replace the dead switch and test if the connection at the shifter is good...looks like im speaking to my trans guy Monday morning to see what we can do...

all sorted...found a how to fix the reverse light switch...bulk easy only took 15 mins...tested a few times to make sure that it was working and all good, also wile the switch was apart i cleaned the insides with contact cleaner and lube to make sure itd be ok...
