Mate bought a small lathe a couple of years back....From memory it was under the $1,000 mark...Will try find his youtube channel with it in to show.....It does him for his home workshop stuff

Edit, found it

That is pretty cheap, SH ones sell quickly for around the $1000 mark. I have seen small lathes last less than 3hrs when for sale on FB and the likes.

I missed out on one that had been up for 7 minutes. $400.00

I dunno what a planishing machine does but surely that's a bargain!
I didn't go into my shed again.
Maybe I'll go in there tomorrow to get a beer . Maybe one day soon I can do some work in there too!!!

Basically used to remove the highs and lows ( smooth out) after forming metal shapes using mallets/sandbags/dollies .
Can be used to form mild shapes.
English wheel does basically the same but slower and more manual.

Since I have an English wheel don't think I'll get .

The power hammer one is a lot more metal forming , why I'd love , comes with a heap of dies including shrinking/stretching , convex and concave shapes ,and louvre dies ,Nylon dies = more finishing.= way more useful metal forming = why it's way more expensive than the planishing machine.

Finally had my lathe and milling machine moved from my fathers place(stepmother is happy). to my son's workshop.
The move went very smoothly, I was a bit worried about moving 2.5 tonnes of cast iron.

And the workshop back to 'normal'.

Later, on the weekend, I'll tram out the mill head to make sure it is truly vertical.
I'll leave the lathe in position for a week before I start the levelling process with a precision machinists level.

Yesterday I made sure the bike battery was fully charged. Made sure car battery was fully charged, put back seat back in (took it out at the store when my son's new dresser drawers didn't fit in the boot), put my tools in the boot as today is my 1 work day.
Probably my biggest achievement was getting down my starsky and hutch 1:18 scale model Torino down and showing the kids, opening the doors and bonnet etc.
And then it went back in the box up high.
Will probably not do anything in my garage again today (beer is in the inside fridge)

Workshop envy here.
I have a lathe, which is invaluable if you own a few 40's and 50's brit bikes and is great for making up the odd drift etc. I would love a milling machine. Love the setup!

I think you cant have to many jacks?
Every time l think l've got enough jacks, mmm, l then think l need another type of jack for a certain type of job.
Lol. I bought six bottle jacks to prop up a floor on my house while I replaced a bearer.

Thanks. Yeah this place was literally built on rocks as you can see. Unfortunately on this particular part of the house the previous owners had the garden bed higher than the inside floor level, which as you know doesn’t bode well.
Swine of a job digging it down and crawling under to set those bottle jacks, but you’ve got to do what you’ve to do, especially when you don’t want to pay a builder:)
I made use of the many lava rocks in the area by building amongst other things this fireplace.

Sorry I digressed from the thread.
