Yeah I am going to regrease the slides next pad change. Would have thought it was enough last time. As for the whine my guess it is ancillary. I need to swap the water pump this week and will run the engine without the belt to confirm the whine is not engine related or trans related. Alt could be on it's way out it looks old. Hoping it's the water pump, even though the pump is less than 20k old.

I have the standard vs covers, I think they are the same. I'm also polishing the engine/tb covers just waiting for the red enamel to cure in the Holden logo and "5000 injection" writing

Yep. Die cast alloy and then painted in the factory grey.....

They come up good if you strip the paint and polish like I did on my old VN (actually, that means I have 2 sets here).

Not sure what they are fetching but the only ones i could find on eBay is asking 330 plus freight. Last i looked im fairly sure they were selling for 250 a pair inc freight, but that was over 12 months ago.

Went to Total rubber and bought 1m of 13mm plus 3m of 5mm. All up 30 bucks. Then gen 15mm hose alone is selling for 36 bucks IIRC. Now i need to decide whether to try and tackle this job with or without the pit. Pit will mean waiting 2 weeks until i have enough time. Or i do the job where i spend most of my time during the week but without a pit or cover to work under. Not sure if I need to climb underneath? If i knew the former i would know if i need the pit or not. 20190107_161400_resized.jpg

V8 indeed my friend. Cant wait to unveil the build it's been 12 months off the road piecing it together. Just waiting on the rear quarter trims (ute) to get back from my painter (some custom work, cant wait to show you) and install the camshaft...motor out atm doing gaskets, rear main, rings bearings and flat tops.

Degreed in my come racing 266 cam yesterday and finished sealing my sump gasket today, very happy with the seal... did it properly. Engine finally off the stand. Bolted on the flywheel to find the pressure plate bolts supplied were M9 not 3/8. More snags.

Just went to buy some clamps and a reducer for my fuel tank breathers. I was reminded again why I rarely shop there. Just over 12 bucks for 3 x 10mm clamps and almost 9 bucks for a plastic reducer. Should have bussed and walked to Bamfords, as I would have paid half that. In reality I should have said sorry to the bloke and not went ahead with the purchase.

Ok pretty certain the slight whine is ancillary as I didn't notice it with the belt discoed. Not the pump, so that leave the alt and the steering pump as possible culprits. I don't think it is the idler pulley as it feels fine.

had pesky oil leak for past 2 weeks, thought it was dizzy (pulled it in and out 5 times yesterday)
Turned out to be every single manifold bolt was loose and rear gasket let go.
Spent last night/ today pulling everything off to replace a simple cork casket.
Redid alot of wiring while blower was out of the way so i can get to everything now without digging thru piles of wires
Last task is to tighton bottom rad hose and fill up with coolant, then check everything and hopefully no more oil leak

Started making new fuel rail mounting brackets and did a drawing for a brake booster bracket for a mate to put a VZ booster into a VR.

...and I'm now considering pulling off the balancer so I can remove the timing cover to clean and paint it...
