I have full comp on mine, under $500 a year but decent hit would still be write off.

And sadly those inattentive drivers can't seem to fathom why you're upset at the damage and grief they've just caused

Had the konis and strut mounts replaced today. I haven't taken it for much of a run, that will be tomorrow but it does feel a lot better.
Regarding water for the radiator, I have only ever used tap water and never had a problem.

Exactly to us a car is more than merely a way from A to B.

Whilst mine isn't a VR/VS, mine copped a tap up the backend about 6 years, with the other car doing 5 to 10 kph....Bootlid still opens and closes with very minimal effort and no broken taillights....Damage was $3,500....Some smash repairers wanted to write it off, but I was fortunate enough to find one that actually quoted it for repairs...

I ended up taking the other party to court for the damages and won, but they took off interstate when the case was dealt with....But that's another story....

It doesn't take much for the cost to be up there

The industry has been under heavy consolidation over the years and some years ago there were 4 big players in the game. As is, it's migrated away from small mom and pop businesses that probably payed tax to big business with multinational arms that probably don't pay tax.

In any case there are a number of players fighting for market share so i don't think AMA has the market cornered (though it would be interesting to find out).

One of the other players is Capital Smart (repair shops primarily in Auz but some in NZed) which is 1/2 owned by Suncorp. I also thought one of the other big players was also owned or part owned by another insurance company but may be i was wrong, lost track of who's who w.r.t. insurance companies and repairers.

Regardless, when business become huge and especially when they become multinational, us poor pesants will always get the smelly end of the stick. @gtrboyy not being able to get a quote is evidence of that.

3k be a right-off. Unless its worth more than market value.

I was reading another thread where a situation like yours, need a panel but they don't make them anymore. The insurance company will offer a cash settlement as they have to use new parts only, so im told/read.

3rd party cost alot more than $500 over here...laid up cover is near that though.

Might be able to get NOS 1/4 panel but still need them to pay for labour/paint etc.

If it's written off doubt I'll want to build another ute instead move on the vk dust collector project.

    Sorry to hear gtrboyy.

I have basically a 'weekender' insurance for 18 or 20k or something on mine. Best bit is first right of refusal if it was a "write off" so I could rebuild myself or transplant.

Still super traumatic to even get a small dent in something I've sunk so much time into.

AMA went and bought up heaps and I mean heaps of smash shops. Capital Smart are suncorp yes. AMA is with IAG and Suncorp still use AMA for 50% of their work. So Suncorp and IAG hold 80% of the insurance market and AMA has 90% of IAG work and 30-50% of Suncorp work.
Now you see why the small shops are being squeezed.
I hate it as I know many people going broke due to this but it's fact. AMA also use 547......

Hey M8 don't go knocking Buick V6, :( they are decent engines and mine is certainly no slouch. Stock 304 has less than 20rwkw above my Buick, plus you're lugging those few extra kg's.

Got the steering wheel back on now I have a light knock/clunk plus the shaft is rubbing on the boot. Decided too hard to figure out what's going on as I can't work out the problem from looking, had to walk away and leave it. I need to make sure I don't sleep in, in the morning is all, because I will miss the bus and run and hour late for work. Probably bus all week this week as I don't fancy changing a water pump and tensioner with the use of a headlight to see what I am doing. Hoping I can figure out the clunk myself as I don't want the wife to drive it to the garage for repairs in case something happens and she loses steering on the way.
