What ever happened to personal responsibilty? Girl dies

Girl dies due to overdosing on Ecstacy, but theres an outcry cause if there was no fear of sniffer dogs she wouldnt of dropped 3 at once.

She made the poor decision to do drugs, she should have got rid of them instead of swallowing them.

Sick of hearing about people overdosing or overheating at big events,im sure St.Johns/Medical staff are sick of it aswell...

Drug victim had nothing to fear: police

Cops are handy to blame for everything, whether they are present or not.

Who's doing the crying - family or drug affected friends?

It would be irresponsible to take responsibility for your own actions in todays society. :p

apprently... theres always some stupid excuse because people nowadays lack the backbone to take responsibility for their own actions.

Agreeing with the OP. no sympathy here either.

    Agreed with OP.

Maybe some of you should go to her funeral and politely explain the meaning of the phrase "Sucked in stooge" to her grieving parents?

No sympathy, it's sad and it's tragic. But it was a stupid move. Drop them on the ground or get caught with them, it's not like the penalties are that severe - apart from your folks knowing because you're a minor. Better then dying.

It's always concerning when these kind of issues are raised. The Police are doing a job, a targeted drug operation in response to the reasonable suspicion that drugs would be at the venues. Should we turn around and tell the Police not to Police??
    .
The civil liberterians are to blame. They always say it's the Police fault.

For instance, last year when that footy player glassed his GF in the face and the Police applied for an AVO on her behalf without her consent which is there legal duty of care due to the severity of the incident the Police were critised for interfering by the civil liberterians.

Second instance, late last year the Casula BP shotting by a ex-husband shotting his ex-wife to death at a service station she worked at. Police previously delt with the pair when the ex-husband who was her husband at that time threatened her with a shot gun. The ex-husband hid the gun meaning Police never located it, he was charged with the relevant charges and an AVO was applied for by Police for the ex-wife's protection. Shortly after they split up. He then went and shot her at work some time after this incident. The Police were blamed for not doing enough to prevent this by the Civil Liberterians. However they fail to see that an AVO is a piece of paper and only as powerful as the person following the conditions.

I blame the Courts as well for handing out **** weak sentences. I say to anyone who thinks otherwise, walk into any Local Court and listen to cases and listen to the judges decision and ruling. People commiting serious assaults getting suspended sentences or good behaviour bonds, drink drivers going mid range getting convinction proven no penalty, under 18's committing serious offences such as robberies and stabbings and been given good behaviour bonds. The sooner the community takes some responsibility for their behaviour the better.

    Anyway thats my rant.

I have no sympathy for the girl.

Clearly she knew they were illegal, she still chose to buy them, she should have known that there are inherent risks in any drug taking, especially illicit drugs, and she chose to do something stupid like take 3 at once, then proceed to rave in 38 degree weather... well DUH!

I've heard a lot of people blaming the police, but that's bullshit. They're job is to enforce the law, and if you get caught out then ****ing tough ****, you've only yourself to blame. Thousands of others managed to enjoy the event without popping pills, and if you want to then the risks and consequences are entirely on your own head.

She took the gamble, she lost.

I know it's tragic but if you take drugs, suffer the consequences.

Bit hard to take responsibilty for your actions when your dead eh?

police sniffer dogs are a joke what they catch 40 people from 20 000? big deal, at events like these there is always going to be shitload of drugs, the demand is huge there for it is cattered for.
taking 3pills in 40degree heat or what ever it is, potentially not the best idea.
A lapse in judgement cant say she deserved to die, if it was a friend or a loved one you knew im sure you wouldnt be taking such a harsh and unreasonable view point.

this is on the late news RIGHT NOW, as I write this.

It's sad someone died, the police are doing a job, if people take drugs and die that is there own fault, same as speeding / hooning drivers and the elderly that dye on the roads.

You people may not have sympathy for her, but since this is a public forum, maybe show some compassion towards the family and friends of the lost soul.

^^ And if the cops didn't do searches, and some idiot decided to take too many pills in the venue and died, people would be screaming "Why weren't the cops searching people?!"

She was alive and well when she decided it was a good idea to take them. That was her chance to use her better judgement.

I have had people I know die from drug abuse, and my view point was exactly the same, a little more emotional sure, but fundamentally the same.

    EDIT:
I have compassion for the grieving family/friends, but not the ones saying it was the police's fault, or the ones implying it's not the girl's fault. I don't have compassion for the girl, she really should have known better with the amount of drug awareness around in today's society.

personal responsibility means if you want to take drugs, it's your body, your choice, you wear the consequences.

if we have personal responsibility, why does there even need to be police sniffer dogs?

Police are just catching the ones who try to take them (drugs) into the club/gig/BDO etc.. a few ppl will take them before hand, and wont be "kickn' all night as it wears off.

And a way to get around the sniffer dogs, (if ppl were still getting in with the pills) is they will sprinkle abit off pepper on there clthes as they line up.. as it iritates (spelling) the dogs nose.. so its stuff up the smell.

Yes its sad that someone died, but at the same time its your own fault for doing this sort of stuff.
Its like speeding, you speed, ya get caught... but you still crack the shits, because you've got your rig impounded etc...
As Jules said, You wear the consequences

Im im sure this girls family is cracking the sads about all this..
(i haven not yet read the paper)

Are you sure about that, I'm sure the handlers of the dogs would be on the look out for a dog that got irritated by something like that.

It'd be interesting to see how many people that they actually caught.

Considering they only caught ~40 people in a crowd of tens of thousands, I get the feeling they didn't do a fantastic job. There is no way in hell ONLY 40 or so people took drugs into the show.
