1986 Holden Astra
I purchased this 1986 Holden Astra last year for $1500 bc it felt like a bargain. The car only has 37,000kms on the odometer and it still smells new. The car has spent most of its 35 years garaged after the owner/driver passed away and 2 years ago his wife and only child also died leaving their grandchild their estate. We replaced a few parts from the engine bay like battery and hoses etc for the roadworthy certificate but now Ive lost my licence for 2 years so I want to sell the car.

So what's it worth considering I can't find one like it as it's almost new but 35yr old?

* Also, I cant find the VIN #

It is obviously one of so as above if you are desperate or, advertise it as mint condition with the pics you have and start at $8000 neg then drop it if you have no serious interest after maybe 2 weeks.
Take more pics in a park preferably a fresh mowed park, because green grass always makes cars look good.
That is of course if someone can drive it there for you.
With something like that don't be impatient for a sale.
Lots of school leavers and older students looking for a good car right now.

SLX autos were $13k when new and from memory these Astra’s weren’t a greatly loved car. But as FU says, it looks mint  Well mint except the foreskin sagy seat cloth and what looks like aftermarket speakers in the C pillars

As is, an average example of the model sells for $1500 odd dollars according to redbook, so if you factor in the covid tax, you could uplift that number to say $2500 or so… maybe…

But the “how long is a string“ type question is what will a very well looked after vehicle with low kms resembling a 2 to 3 year old car command on the market? Only a buyer would know what they are willing to pay… I’d be in no hurry to sell it if I had a place to park it outside the weather.

Sadly the dollars you may get selling it wont go anywhere near what you’d need to spend to replace it with something as close to a 37000 km used car… In essence what you have is like new old stock and worth putting in storage for when you need/want to drive it again. That’s even more the case if it drives nicely and you like old school retro cars.

If you are not into old school retro and don’t want to keep it, take really nice photos, lots of photos to show of its qualities and advertise the sale in a specialist rag like Justcars. What you ask is up to you but an 86 SLE Astra with 140000kms with extras, where the asking price was $4500 as shown in Justcars, was sold… Unfortunately in this case we have no hint when this was actually sold and what it was sold for, so it could be a years old add where the car sold for much less than asking price.…

Heck, buy a copy of Justcars magazine (woolies has them) and see if they have any such similar cars for sale… else pick a number and if it sells straight away you should have asked for more :p:p:p

Alternatively, just sell this old girl to someone who will look after her in the way she deserves and don’t try and solve the national debt issue by doing so… Better she goes to a good home and is appreciated than to someone who will tart her up and loose the the uniqueness of the old girl…

It's probably worth roughly what you paid for it...if you can garage then do so & put it on 90 day/club rego.

Can only see 2 types wanting it a young p plater needing transport or somebody mature wanting an old car but cant afford anthing too nostalgic & expensive.

Old man had low spec model with carb engine *shrugs*

They were boring as hell yet super reliable when everything worked as they were supposed.

The pinnacle of the Nissan Pulsar was the GTiR with its SR20DET engine and the ATTESA all-wheel drive system. It was good for < 14 second for the 400m run along with mid 5 seconds for the 0-100 kph time, all from the 160kw engine which was easily tweaked for more mumbo... Such was an great little car

IIRC, Holden didn’t use the 90’s Pulsar for their Astra’s so there was no real pocket rocket Astra until a lot later when HSV played with the Opel VXR turbo variants in mid 2000’s. And even then I don’t think these HSV Astras held a candle to the much earlier Pulsar GTiR.

As to the earlier, cosmetically upgraded HSV SV1800 Astra POS sold in 1988, best that isn’t mentioned further… Same can be said for the later Daewoo badge engineered imports..

Yep, the GTiR pulsar was the pinnacle and Holden badge engineers lost an opportunity to bring something really meaningful into their portfolio (if Nissan would have let them do that)…
