Hard to tell from your picture so a little hint as to what vehicle it is, where the part is located, etc may help.

But to me it looks like a load proportioning valve for the rear brakes on a dual cab.
Not sure if Holden ute use such load proportioning valves or simply rely on ABS.

Yep @Skylarking on the money,
Yes the utes have this rear brake load proportioning valve on them.

For the OP,
......when the rear tray or tub is loaded up with weight, this valve then biases the the rear brakes to apply more than the front brakes.

More load in the back = more rear brake line pressure.
Less or no load in the back = less or normal rear brake line pressure.

Yea it's in the back in the tub. Noticed it's leaking fluid and had no idea what it was. Thanks for that. One of the many things going wrong with my bucket. Cheers guys.
