I recently bought an April 2007 VZ Commodore wagon with factory LPG injection. Without paying a tech $$$s, how do I know what power it is producing, ie how to identify what engine is in it? (V6 Alloytech I know) but are there any identifiers to tell me 175kw, 190kw or what? All I can say just now is that the 2007 is somewhat more powerfull than my 2006 VZ and that is on LPG. Its overtaking ability is much better than my 2006 on unleaded.

Easy.

Pop the bonnet.
Look on the front of the motor.

High output LY7 has:
• 4 cam sensors.
• Has 4 Cam actuator solenoids.
• Back of inlet manifold has a motor mounted to the back of it for variable airflow.

The build plate will also tell you.

Other than curiosity, would you always notice the 15 kw difference, if at all, in daily driving on LPG? This is especially so considering the petrol companies vary the LPG butane/propane mix at times to serve their needs and this probably has a greater impact on power.

In any case, this post may be relevant as it states VZ factory LPG is 175kw... Years later, the VE/VF factory LPG was 180kw as stated here, so I doubt you have a 190kw tuned engine.

Regardless, enjoy your updated car

A fun way to figure out is to take to a drag strip get your 1/4 mile time
Go to a weight bridge and get the weight and with those two number you can estimate the power.

Thanks for the time and effort put in by JC members for the useful info re engine id. Appreciated. I will put the Killer Wasp info on the back burner for now. We have very similar insects in Oz. I know this as I have run into them in the Oz bush. Not fun.
Of course my 2006 VZ may just have an ill motor and at 260k, that is quite possible.
Reminds me of the lyrics in a song. "who wants to live forever"

The LPG motor has plenty of torque. It just runs out of puff above 4000 RPM, so less maximum power. You won't notice in everyday driving.
