I've had 16" (VS SS/VT S) rims for a while now what should be the Tyre Profile to clear the front strut towers on me vn?

The stock tyres on the VN were 185 75 14 , 634 mm diameter tyre , 14 x 6 inch wheel

On those 16 x 7 inch Commodore stock wheels you now have (which should be the same offset as the stock VN wheels) I would use a tyre -- 205 55 16. 632 mm diameter . Typically 91 load rating in that size. (A 205 50 16 is too small in diameter and typically a lower load rating)

The 205 55 16 will sit 10 mm closer to the suspension than the original stock tyres in 185 75 14 but there will be room to fit. If in doubt checking inside clearance is easy enough.

225/50X16 is the required size for clearance....Load rating must be 92 or greater

225/55X16 will hit the spring base and 205/55X16 will be under load rated for the car

215/60r 16, 225/50r16 or 225/55r16 will all be ok. 215/60r16 will be the cheapest option.

Tried 225/55X16 on my VC (same strut) and they hit the spring base....I suspect the 215/60X16 will do the same, even though I haven't tried

These were tried with VXSS rims (currently fitted to the car) and 16X8 CSA Prowlers

215/65/16 clears the spring base on a vs, throws speedo out on the rear though.
16x7 vs ss rim

How much clearance do you have with the fender?

Seems like you need wheels with less offset.

Pick up a set of factory BMW wheels off Gumtree.

That's weird, can't explain why your having issues with your vc but I've been in the tyre industry 12 years now & never had an issue fitting those size tyres on 1st, 2nd or 3rd gen commodores including my own Vk with 16x8 hdt momos

To the original poster, I recommend you take your wheels to your local tyre joint & ask for their advice.

Been in the tyre trade for over 20 years.....Have tried plenty of Commodores, pre VR with 225/55X16 and had the same issue...Hit the base of the spring plate..

I actually forgot to mention....The struts fitted to my VC are from a VP....Only changed the top bearing plate, because the VP ones were shot and the VC ones were good...Otherwise, it would have been a straight swap over

Offset isn't the issue....The VX wheels currently fitted to my VC is closer to the inner guard, than the previous 16X8 prowlers fitted....Still have the same problem....225/55X16 hit the spring base of the strut
