Guys,
Driving the vx ss from Adelaide to Darwin.
It currently sits low enough to scrape the exhaust on speed bumps.
Has 18 inch low profile wheels on now
Would it be worthwhile to get a set of VZ executive steelies for the drive up?
They are 16 inch but with much larger sidewalls

Would there be a noticeable difference in ride comfort?

I have heard stories of guys blowing out 18inch wheels on long trips.

I have a set I can buy in an hour what's people's thoughts?

Just make sure your tyre pressures are up a bit, and shouldnt be a problem. Certainly changing to 16" will give a better ride, but the road is all bitumen, so shouldnt be any issues. Do you have a decent spare??

I have a 17 inch spare, just thinking it may be worthwhile incase I do have a blow out and the extra height and comfort may be nice on a 3500km trip

A lot less chance of blowing out a 16 then an 18

Not really, all to do with tyre pressures. Run them up a bit, and just touch them every now and then to see how warm they are.
If you run over something, well wont matter what size you have.

Anyone?
So according to the tyre calculator the tire is 4% larger rolling diameter compared to the 18's that are currently on there.

205's too skinny?

Just do it on the 18's. The roads down here are rubbish, and I've never blown a tyre. Had 18's or larger since 2008.

Yeah but with the nolathane bushes and super lows its a very firm ride and can bottom out if you hit the right bump at the right speed.
Also considered that a 15 inch steel commodore wheel has to be the most bloody common wheel in Australia and would be easy to get in a country town.

also ride comfort was a thought
but the main question now is a 205 wide tyre (front and rear) ok for the VX SS?, considering the stock wheel on an executive v6 was a 15 inch 205 wide tyre now the VT-VX Executive came with the option of getting the LS1 but i don't know if it then received a wider tyre.
