I spoke to Craig's and sent 2 emails with my video problem replays and still waiting for a reply. They must be too busy for me. Keen to hear about other trans specialists in Sydney. I do recall one in Windsor.

Yeah they've been flat during covid...if anything it's made them busier.

If shop does good work with good reputation can expect long waiting list before you finally get yours done especially if in modified car scene.

Other shop I've been to is steve at Shiftright but fairly long drive for me & he too is flat out no time time or room to swing a cat & it ain't no small workshop either.

Don't even get me started about delays waiting on aftermarket parts...grrrrr

Down here Harry's Gearboxes was the man, man he could do top work on 4L60s or anything else trans or diff related. It was up to six months to get in. But when he got that far booked out he would stop taking bookings.

Unfortunately he sold up and has disappeared. I tried tracking him down as he was too young to retire, unless he' won lotto. But can't find out where he has gone......

Their flat out because they are good, and warranty their work

Just like finding the right engine builder or tuner, you pay for quality and sometimes you need to wait as well because their reputation has their little shop packed to the rafters

I would give it a week and then call

I’ve heard it said that such shops are also flat out because they often have real difficulty finding staff that have the same high standards of workmanship. End result is that a one or two man shops can only do so much in a day so work backs up…

It is what it is…

I've never emailed or called Craig's I think last time was there stopped in on Saturday spoke to the son who probably runs it all now..could have fobbed me off but instead rummaged through some old parts/boxes to find obscure speedo gear for trimatic...he wasn't sure if was correct part or not & didn't want any coin for it either.

Before that had vt 304 4l60e modded/rebuilt by them twice in 7 or so years...Craig suggested if I break it again should really look at th400 or less skids/leadfoot activities.

Surprisingly there were dudes popping 4l60e on a regular basis....they did have triple the power & less empathy though lol

Its not the HP that kills these things its the torque. The 3rd/4th clutches in these things are a joke. They were built/designed for a daily driver and should stay that way for anything approaching decent hp.
Previously my car was cammed...decent cam etc...just over 400 rwhp....cant remember the torque numbers but I could plant my foot and the trans never had an issue. Was built with torque converter, shift kit, trans cooler, carbon clutches etc.. I added some torque and these things clutches just rip apart. If your torque is getting around 450nm or beyond then I'd expect your going to be expecting issues under a heavy foot.
Basically, and its only my personal opinion....if your around 400hp in an ls1 then a built 4l60e should last you a while....pushing that and you'll likely have a reduced longevity by a long shot.

I'm at about 900nm with the supercharger on the Craigs built 4l60e

So far so good, fingers crossed, roll the dice....... and all that jazz

Edit: IIRC Craigs said the transmission should be fine as long as it isn't reving to high, bouncing of the limiter, getting punched in the face with the standard traction control, the hard opening and closing of the throttle puts big shock loads thru the transmission, it is tuned correctly to suit the power, and, I keep the temps under control

They did say that if alot of drag racing or big power skids were in my future that I should plan for a T400
