Hey guys! I've now got a VB Commodore, and I'm going to strip down the VH of good bits to keep then get rid of the VH.. my question, the little bit that's left on it, is it worth keeping? What it's got on it atm:

    Definately keeping:
    - Front Bumper
    - Rear Bumper
    - Boot (it's red like the rusty one on the VB lol)
    - SL/E door trims

    Curious if it's worth keeping?:
    - SL/X dash cluster thingy (it's vacuum manifold.. but has volts and other thing)
    - Front/Rear all glass in the doors (just in case?)
    - The black 202 which is sitting in there (VBs got a reco blue 202.. good for bits?)
    - Blue SL/X seats
    - Rear glass (big question mark, the VB one has red paint on it.. better off getting new one?)
    - Stock exhaust (whole thing, for blue 202)
    - Mirrors (well I want VL ones eventually lol)
    - Guards (apparently I can turn the front end into VH if I have all the parts, is this true?)

I appretiate all ideas, suggestions and comments..

    Cheers guys!!

To turn it into a VH front end take out your headlights & also swap front gards over ( can`t fit VH headlights without changing gards).. you could also change your taillights, they should fit straight in.. the red paint on your rear window should scrap off with a razor blade..

the seats are usually worth keping if u see a reason to, ie. better nick, "sentimentel value":whistling or just prefer them. They're easy to put in. If they don't just bolt in, unbolt the running gears and swap them over.

Some good tips guys, it would save a lot of time running around looking (although I know the wreckers have in abundance VB -> VL for the pickings :D..) I forgot to mention, my VB is a base model with nothing fancy, vinyl seats and door trims, basic dashboard, rooted paint :( Just going to be a car, keeping the blue 202ci (closest I've had to a roadworthy car lol)

I'll keep the VH front end then, when it comes time to paint I'll get them painted and put them on, IMO VH looks better than the VB but that's just me (and all that chrome unlike the VK/L.. *drool*.. I mean look at the front of this thing lol)

While I'm here, does anyone know if the VH bumpers will bolt straight up or I need to put some new holes in?

    Cheers!!

EDIT: Already got the seats out, I don't know how they'd go in there.. they're much more comfortable than the ones in there but they're blue :| might be out of place in the tan interior.. maybe I can annoy my brother into giving me his SL/E seats, one of them doesn't fit in his VL anyway (passenger one - there's a lump in the floor for the cat to sit in)

You can sell this on ebay if you don't want the oil pressure or volt gauge.

What suburb are you in? If they're in good nick with no scratches I might be interested in them.

Is the paint on the outside or inside of the window? If inside (i.e. over the demister strips) throw it out.

Yep, hang on to those they're the first things to disappear at the wreckers.

Can be done, but you'll need to keep the VH bonnet & grille as well.

    Mark.

Good advise Mark! I might hang onto the glass.. never know when I'll need it (when I don't have it of coarse lol) plus it's in pretty bad shape.. umm.. the paint is on the outside, it's overspray from what seems like the painting of the boot ('twas once white).. I've decided I want to keep the dash cluster, besides the extra guages it's solid black instead of silver like the one in there, possibly vinyl dyeing or just leave it black..

I've got a whole VH front end: headlight assemblies, grill, front bar, guards (surprisingly I think we have some red ones as well which is handy).. so that's just a straight bolt on eh? That's really interesting, something I'm definately going to look at.. then the main give away would be the VB tail lights lol

I've so much to learn, and I have too many questions to ask lol.. Might make a questions thread

hi bud the vh tail lights will bolt straight in aswell

i was wondering if vb/vc fender blinkers clip onto the vh/vk headlights that would save changing guards

I've got a VH I'm half wrecking as well... one of the interior lights has gone into my vr, I want to try and rig the VH SL/E variable wiper trimpot to work in my vr instead of the vr one. the vr one shits me.

The brakes and suspensions could be a good thing to keep?

Though you possible could be able to trade the parts you have for one car at the wreakers and get parts for the other…

strip every thing off it and sell it all on ebay
even if you only get $10 buck for something you still get money and you make it pick-up only and save money on shipping

well thats what i would do ayway oh i lied i would keep it causei got no car lol)

Keeping the glass is a good idea, one day while just sitting inside i heard glass smash. I went out side to my old VH, and the front passenger side window had exploded. I couldn't work out what happened, but apparently it's possible for glass to 'expolde' if the pressure inside the car gets too much.

At first I thought something had gone throught the window but there was nothing in or around the car that was out of the ordinary for it to be smashed intentionally.
So yeah, keep the glass, coz you never know what might happen!!

The ignition is the easiest sale on ebay, a coil, dissy and leads in good working order pull $80 as they are a good mod for the older 6's. Ive been through 7 VH's,3 VK's, 1 VL for parts in the last 3 yrs and no matter what you do, youll always be short of bits and throw what youll need a week later lol.
