hi, i have just brought a 2012 sv6 thunder, manual ute, i have driven 5 speed manuals all my life but never a 6, i have one question, what stops me from accidently shifting into reverse when im going from 2nd to 1st. Can anyone let me know how this works im sure it is the same for every SV6 manual car.

Thanks alot

if its anything like the ls1 t56's, its a solenoid that engages to physically lock out reverse while driving forward.

Its not a solenoid i don't think, i believe its a mechanical linkage that stops 6th to reverse, next time your out go from 6th to neutral, release clutch and then try reverse.....i do not recommend this but thats how you can do it

From 2nd to 1st is straight froward whereas reverse is to the left of 1st with a bit more force so you wouldn't accidentally go from 2nd to reverse.
