ive got a list of cars i want to get first, vy or vz wagon of anysort, manual s or sv6, 4x4 turbo diesel rodeo or hilux..........
Wanted a VC first Hi, After a time in Triumphs and a Honda Accord (first one in Oz), my family grew to family car size. I wanted to buy a VC Commodore at the time, but my now ex-wife could not get the demonstrator into second gear. It was a horrible gearbox. Ended up in a F**d. Things changed with the VL. Bought a VL 6 manual in 1987 to replace the other thing. I really loved the drivetrain, and had no difficulty living with the suspension limitations. Continuing the idea of buying the last of a model, I bought a VSII in 1997, manual V6 with dual SRS, ABS, IRS and aircon. As soon as I bought it, I added the Holden cruise control (cost $313 for the bits) and alloy wheels. Recently, I added a level 3 cluster. This car is nor over 9 years old, still running great and I have had no thought of selling it. My fouth son is approaching driving age, and I can see the VS heading his way at the appropriate time. Along the way, I was thinking that I would end up buying a VZ during the run out to VE - buying the last of a model has been very successful in my mind. However, when the VZ was approaching I found out that it would not be possible to buy a manual sedan without a body kit (i.e. SV6). My wife does not like cars with spoilers, and they don't do much for me. So we bought a VYII manual V6 just before the VZ appeared. I use it as my work car, and it has still not reached 10K after over 20 months. I am still happy driving the VS, but do like the VY as well. Was very happy with the price at $23,295 + GST + REgo + stamp duty brand new current year model. I have a three window cluster to put into the VYII when I get a chance, and I expect to keep it a long time.
Amen to that. I started with a VC SL/E and have managed to keep it in one piece. Even managed a second VC, this time a L, but its all good for a work hack and varios spare parts. They may not be quick, but they sure as hell are good.
Parents had a ice green VH SL/X 202 manual, that's what I learned to drive in. But my first actual Holden was a HQ 253
My first Holden was a 1966 HR 186 S with factory twin strommies , four speed opel box and front discs brakes
my 1st holden was a vl s/l and i loved it but i sold it for parts to a mate coz i was getting in too much trouble with that one... have had 5 vl's all up and the latest is a calais
HQ 4 door, was a real dark green, was dodgy as, had no idea what I was doing, first drive on highway (4 lane) literally picked it up fri night, drove to mates place sat morn. overtook a car in right hand lane, left front tire blue out, and caused me to end up in the left hand lane happened in 2 seconds... lucky I was ahead of the car I had just overtaken.... Thats when I learnt about re-treads!!! HJ Ute, classic shape, real nice car that was. My uncle had a v8 wagon can't remember the year V something was the envy of alot of people, the thing hooked, and did like 500,000 kms in it, Then got married and had to sell it, that was 8 years ago, and he still misses it!!!
First car was the VL commodore with RB30 nissan motor not much power but a good old motor that has never let me down apart the common head problem of the models Due to the light rear end they light up easy even on dry and wet roads with 205's:w00t:
My first car was a 1970 HG Holden Kingswood - 161 red motor, 3 on the tree, with drum brakes all round. 0-60mph in about 5 minutes, (the shift from 1st to 2nd was a killer). It was a matt brown finish, (never finished the re-spary) - so she looked like a brown cow, handled like a brown cow, went as fast as a brown cow so I named her "Bessie the Brown Cow". I didn't know much about cars when i first got her, but by the end i knew alot about re-doing clutches, re-building gear boxes, replacing drive shafts...etc Boy do i miss her. Now i own a boring VY SV8 - 245kw, 6 on the floor, discs all round - 0-100kmh in a tick over 6secs - on second thoughts there is no going back!!!!!
Rocket Red VK. Black 202 trimatic. Was a great car!! Used to flog the guts out of it, but it kept on going. . . . . I miss that car at times.
i have had 3 cars and all of then holdens :air: my first was a UC torana that was not really a first car because i didn't get it changed into my name but anyway. My second one way my Vh vactioner (picture in signature) and i liked the car but it was an auto so i got rid of that about 2 weeks ago and now i have just bought a resprayed manual Vk off my good mate and that is my 3V project car (Vn V6 powered Vk) just need to find a shitbox vn to pull the motor out of:bang:
mine was a UC torana, bought it when i was 16 and stripped it to a shell, then put it back together and painted it. 202, yt head, headers, exhaust, 350 holley, 4 spd manual, cig locker at one stage. fun first car! tought me a lot of things (about cars aand driving)
