    hmm

you have to consider the conditions, im normally hauling 4 large people 85kg being the lightest, a boot full of crap along the New england highway which is in parts fairly mountainous.....

as for the city driving i also have a tendensy to get stuck in traffic for hours when trying to go from the North Shore to the city, then from the city to parramatta (sometimes in peak hour) for various errands.

if you coast down say a mountain and your using gears for compression braking, if the engine is doing 3000rpm and generally over 50km/h the ecu will shut off the injectors so if you reset it then - well you can do the sums

I guess it shows the heavier the cars get, the worse the fuel economy.

I get around 8L/100km Freeway, and about 11L/100km city driving in my VR Wagon (V6 Manual).

Thats why i love manual so much, if you take your foot of the accelerator (at any speed) and you're above 800rpm you dont use any fuel. Its only when you drop below 800rpm or put your foot down due you start using fuel again. I guess thats why manuals are so much more economical.

    Hi,

I average close to 10L/100Km locally driving to and from work, plus general runaround.

Fully laden with three big kids, a boot full of luggage and aircon flat out at Christmas, I average 8.0L/100Km driving from Penrith NSW to the Sunshine Coast QLD in less than 12 hours (average speed 90 KPH). I have a three window cluster that has been calibrated to be extremely accurate.

My best consumption has been 7.4L/100Km over 800Km, driving around the speed limit.

My best "Distance To Empty" has been, 2,204Km. That was acheived when refueling after driving downhill from Bilpin towards Richmond and Penrith using 0.0L/100Km for much of it as the car was coasting in gear so much.

I know people with 4 cylinder auto buzz boxes that don't do much better than I do. I use cruise control whenever possible.
