What Do You Consider 'thrashing' Or 'thrashed' for a commodore?
I like to drive aggressively to a point. I rarely hit 5 grand on the revs (good way to waste fuel LOL), coming out of corners i like to give it that bit so that the exhaust kicks away at the high revs (again not even 4 at times).

I did a search couldnt see any other post about this. Whats your thoughts?
Lets say the car is serviced regularly. Well looked after..

Thrashing to me means driving a vehicle in a manner that is not necessary i.e booting it from the lights.

A thrashed car to me is one that is consistently driven to its limits, particularly in relation to engine revs and transmission loading. High revs in each gear, dumping the clutch, burnouts, holding the auto trans in gear manually instead of letting it change itself, pulling it back into a lower gear at too high a speed, consistent hard cornering and speed shifting on manuals, beating the synchros.

Making the mechanical components work hard all the time just shortens the car's life. Even if you keep the maintenance up, abuse will break things.

+1 on what calaber and wraith said.

Basically, driving the car more "enthusiastically" than needed thus causing excessive wear on components.

Something I'm guilty of on occasion. Though what is considered thrashing in my car is getting to 100kmph in like 13sec...

i wouldnt say that doing it occassionally is thrashing. who doesnt give their car a bit at the lights or coming out of a corner every now and then? i dont mean hammering it to 100 as fast you as can, redlining every gear and drifting/sliding out of corners, i mean being a bit enthusiastic sometimes

Thrashing is all the good stuff!

- limiter launches
- neutral bangers
- rollbacks
- clutch pops/kicks
- handbrakies
- "park" brakies
- keybangers

.... etc :p

To me. thrashing - is treating the car with disrespect.

I would still call it trashing even if it's done now and then. Like, I would say "Gave the car a trashing on the way here" which would be related to that one instance and not how the car is treated in general.

To me. thrashing - is treating the car with disrespect.

Spot on! I agree with that high level definition.

Nup. It's still a machine and it's someone else's property. Rentals should be treated no differently to your own car.

I found out the hard way at an early age that thrashing a car just hurts your wallet.
