hey guys, looking at buying a vy/vz ss ute in the next few months. Found two nice vz's on gumtree, one red, one black. My question is, i see so many faded red commodores everywhere, mainly vs-vu, some vy's. It seems to occur more in the red ones. Is this a **** batch of paint? a **** colour? **** body care? Im leaning towards the red ss-z but i dont want it fading to pink over the next few years. Had they sorted out the issue by the time they brought out the vz's? any info would be great. thanks in advance, Brandon.
Red is one of those colours that suffer from the UV rays from the sun, over the years paint manufactures have tried many things to counter it but lead was best, which has long since been banned for use in Australia. Companies like Lexus use a UV filtering clear coat which is upwards of $1000 a litre so I don't see bottom range family cars using that any time soon from the factory.
but taking good care of your cars paint will extend the time of fading obv. i say go for it. nothing a respray wont fix in a fear years.
yeh suppose, car wont be under a carport for the next year or two til i move out anyway.. could be a factor. red does go faster..
Both my utes are red. Thank god the only one fading a bit is the VS. Just needs a buff and wax and comes up all good
Talk to any panelbeater they hate red cars. My red vy sits outside. The paint looks faded after about a month without waxing but comes up like new with a good wax. I try to rewax once a fortnight
A lot of Holden reds aren't cleared (not sure about the VE - not many red ones near me) so they can oxidise badly like any non-cleared paint. If you don't let it get too bad, a chemical paint cleaner will often do the job - something like Autoglym SRP or Dodo Lime Prime would be a good bet if you're trying to do it by hand. Heavy oxidation will need abrasives machine polishing to get rid of it properly though. Always follow a paint cleanser with a good wax or paint sealant.
Red pigment fades fastest in any situation on anything. Cars, bikes, printed matter, anything. The only way to stop that happening is never take the car out during daylight hours. It's a worry, but it's oh so true. A regular wash and light polish regularly will help the situation.
i had a red vr commie the ###n paint was faded 2 ways to sunday ugh... what i did was i went 2 the local carwash every 3 nights and it came up the goods again :blah blah:
