Alert: Im Not very good with cars
I recently bought a 06 maloo, it runs fine exept i noticed when i put the foot down it blows alot of white smoke, i checked the oil and it was below the dipstick after a recent service, i belive it has been sitting around for a while before i bought it, i took it to my mechanic and he replaced a hardend valve steam seal thinking it might fix the problem, it still blows smoke i have also noticed that the is no coolant under the radiator cap. even when i top it up the next moring there is none there. but when i check the coolant level the yello cap on the front right of the engine bay it shows a little over where it should be.
So why is there no coolant under the cap when i check it?
why does it still burn oil?
why does it blow white smoke?
should i take it to hsv?
its done 130,000 and im not very good with cars.
thanks

Yeah take it to another mechanic and get a full decent proper service, some guys on here could recommend places in your area, seems strange oil and coolant are down, you could top it all up yourself and see how that goes

If its blowing white smoke and loosing coolant its probably being burnt. Check around the outside of the engine for any signs of coolant. If not it may be a head gasket.

White smoke - Coolant/water being burnt
Blue smoke - Valve stem seals,, rings.
Black smoke - running rich

If yours is white, and losing coolant then something major may be on the cards.
Check for any white markings for dried coolant in the engine bay

As instructed above, take to another mechanic immediately but if white smoke is happening and losing coolant mate, doesnt look good.
Can be anything from a cracked head to gasket.

As above, this is probably going to be bad news, so brace yourself when you get a quote. Coolant is leaking into the engine, being burnt and then coming out the exhaust as steam. Usually this is inlet manifold gasket or head gasket. This will be major engine work and best to get a few opinions and a few quotes from competent mechanics.

If you're not very good with cars, I wouldn't recommend attempting either fix yourself. As long as you didn't overheat it at some point it's just bad luck and there's not much you could've done. If you're still driving it make sure there is always coolant or water in the radiator, I'd just be putting plain water in temporarily to save some $$, but best to get this checked sooner rather than later.

Check it thoroughly to make sure it wasn't one of the hundreds of vehicles 'drowned' in recent east coast floods. Once thus damaged they are practically worthless however there are some people very clever at 're-building' them and it's often the engines that suffer from water ingestion, internal rust, bad (water contaminated) oil, lack of servicing etc.

So, after a pressure test of the radiator we have found out the cap was leaking, so the coolant has Been flushed and new cap installed, it is now still blowing smoke
And burning oil. The valve stem seals have been replaced, is there anything else
It could be apart from taking apart the whole? What price will I be looking at?
I also tried some stop smoke don't think it has done anything.

has it stopped losing coolant after the cap fix?
I know when I bought mine and had a coolant leak it took 3 different mechanics and approx 3-4 K later to finally have it not leaking anymore. There were more than 1 small leaks. so replaced almost every part along the water side of things including finally the radiator, now that its all done, no more leaks and runs beautifully, i actually dread having anyone work on it now for fear they will upset the stable setup I have got it to now.

Again, as per my post above, what colour is the smoke? White correct?

Then if it is, a cap wont fix that.
Its a engine overhaul checking water channels and finding where and how its leaking.

As for costs, im sorry man but looking at a couple grand at least.
Can you do a video and post it up or find one on youtube to that is similar to your situation

This is only based on your info you provided.

Symptom: White smoke or water vapor from the exhaust. You notice white smoke coming from the exhaust when you start your car. If it is cold out, this may be normal. If the smoke does not disappear after the car is warmed, you have a problem.
Possible causes:

1.Transmission fluid may be entering the intake manifold through vacuum modulator.
The Fix: Replace vacuum modulator

2.Cylinder head gasket(s) may be bad.
The Fix: Replace cylinder head gasket(s).

3.Cylinder head(s) may be warped or cracked.
The Fix: Resurface or replace cylinder heads. (Resurfacing is not a DIY job)

4.The engine block may be cracked.
The Fix: Replace engine block.
