i love rb26's but i think the rb30/26 combo is insane, in saying that though im a v8 man at heart so a good old lumpy 355 stroker would have to be my favourite. also i agree with mikecuzzy, for reliability those ecotech's win hands down. i once had a vn paddock basher on the limiter for nearly 3 hours and she still kept going
I'm with Darren_L, love the 308/304 and the fact it is home grown. As Darren said they are great in a light bodied car, had an LH/mild308/4 speed combo that was an absolute gem for high speed cruising.
304. Great engine when it first became injected in 88/89 as mentioned before. Should also mention excellent power for a late 80's car.... IMO STILL the best sounding motor with just an exhaust/headers behind it...
secondary liquid resistance high voltage motors. because monster torque! its what you would find in alot of mining equip in the middle of nowhere. add more resitance for more torque. but if you mean cars only. anything with a great note. especially the merc v8
I lol at 304 rb30 and bbc. For stock motors they are grossly inefficient and just really poorly designed. Once you add mods they can be ok, but are we talking about the best motors, or best to modify?
We're talking about neither really, it's just a personal preference thing, your 'favourite' motor. I couldn't care less how "inefficient" a big block Chev is, it's my favourite motor, especially a big cranky one with a dirty big blower on top sucking down alcohol. Next on the list is a small block Chev, as i stated earlier.
I am going against the grain here, my little red 253 and trimatic.great little motor, pity about choice of carby though. Once the quady goes on, I think shell be a sweet little gem of a motor.
Or my previous 202 and 3 on the tree, ran for years with a cracked piston, when it went bang, she still got me home, I used to chirp 2nd in that thing.
If we are talking stock engines, then may as well add LS engines to that list of grossly inefficient engines as well. Power per cc isn't that great when compared to the likes of Audi, Mercedes etc As mentioned the thread is just about our favourite engine. If we are talking the best, then mass produced engines from the likes of GM & Ford aren't even going to make the bottom of the list.
